January often marks the beginning of the whitebass annual spawning run up the tributaries of the lakes they inhabit.
The slightly warmer than usual average temperatures so far this winter will help get the bass in the mood for love.. wink
Of all the factors that determine the timing of the spawn it is the length of daylight verses night that is the most consistent..
The peak of the spawn is usually around the first day of spring and the completion of the third full moon cycle of the new year.
The best whitebass fishing for me has been between the 2nd and 3rd full moon cycle.
I believe the full moon cycle extends the length of spawning hours for the whitebass deep into the night when the other factors are in place.
About the only thing that will stop the whitebass from spawning is the lack of water in the lakes and tributaries in the watershed.

All that said Granger Lake is in good shape as is the San Gabriel river for another great spawning run to enjoy.

I always enjoy your videos. Am looking forward to targeting whitebass on the fly this spring on RayRoberts.

As a fly fisher the San Gabriel might be your best option this year .

I actually prefer the early part of the run when it takes some very specific tactics and skill just to find and catch these cold fish.

Yes great awesome video as always been thanks for sharing clap And it seemed, you outfished J-Moe wink Of course, personally if I had a 1to5 ratio of fish caught, fishing with J-Moe, I'd still be more than happy thumb yes
