I recently purchased a Penn Senator 14/0 for catching sharks from the beach. I put 400 yards of #150 braid for my backing and was going to fill the rest of the reel with #150 mono. I’m only going to be using it once or twice a year and didn’t know if the mono over time would warp the spool. Is it ok to go ahead and fill it up? Thank you

No, but a 14/0 is a bit overkill for sharks. Better suited for bluefin tuna.

I was thinking typically the mono is used for backing ?

First I have ever heard of braid for backing then mono unless it’s the last section for line shy fish such as YFT.
