took me 20 minutes to get $5 of gas to dribble into the tank. I stuck a piece of plastic tube down where it fills and there didn't seem to be any obstruction.

What da hay?

The tank vent may be clogged.

When you stick the tube down the fill spout. Blow into the end and see if the gas will bubble. If it doesn't, the end isn't in the gas.

Shake the boat and listen for the fuel to slosh. No slosh, No fuel. If you can hear it. The tank has fuel.

I'm assuming this is fuel injection. If so, It'll have a return line. Check it.

Last but not least. Does the fuel gauge work? Is the tank full with you trying to add more?

Unless the gas nozzle was sealed against the filler hole. The pressure escapes from said filler hole.

The vent on the tank runs through the fuel return. It's an emissions thing.

But keep checking for that vent.

Is it a Skeeter? My last 2 Skeeters were tough to get gas pumped into them.

Common problem with boats made in the last 8-10 years thanks to the EPA. There’s a charcoal canister coming from the vent line off the fuel tank. Occasionally they get clogged but it’s usually the vent line going to it from the tank or the line coming out of it to the external vent opening. If there’s a low spot or sag in the line it will collect fuel and stop the vapors from exiting. Kind of like a p trap in plumbing.

I believe this is about sticking the nozzle in the hole and the handle thing keeps tripping.

Nothing to do with a vent. It's either too much coffee or the filler pipe is plugged. Causing a back flow of gas. Tripping the gas nozzle.

Or a bad gas gauge. Showing whatever but full.

My 95 procraft was bad about this. Did not matter once I started premix, I did 5 gallon jugs and they didn't miss a beat

But keep checking for that vent.

The vent is in the base of the fuel filler lid assembly on my skeeter. It actually has directions to clean it periodically. The boat has a 1-1/2” filler hose and directly beside that filler hose is a 3/4” vent hose that returns to the filler neck. When it is clogged, which has happened, the boat will not easily accept fuel. The fuel spits back to the gas pump nozzle and clicks the fuel off. The return line has to be clear to allow the fuel to freely flow into the tank.

Idk

Wait what? Your gas tank is vented to atmosphere air? Before being recycled back into the fuel?

VW got nailed for less. Imagine if them basturds made an outboard.

You look for that vent or a vacuum release in that cap.

Has everything to do with a vent. If vent isn’t working properly it will try to vent out the fill tube causing fuel to blow back and shut off nozzle.
