A shad color, a bluegill color, and bone. This. ^^^^ Shad and Bluegill colors seasonal dependent for clear water and bone for tannic or stained water

There are short windows where baby bass and crappie colored swimbaits will really shine; and in some waters, chartreuse belly and back is great; but with most lures the presentation and action far outweigh the importance of color the majority of the time.

Shad, bone or gill. Usually in that order of preference. Shad pattern most of the time.

For years I had only thrown soft swimbaits. Then several years ago I saw the TB guys recommend the Lite Trout color and said it produces in waters miles from trout or trout stockings. To this date the S-Waver 168 in Lite Trout is always tied on. Not sure what it is but it gets bit - so much that I change the hardware out of the box.

I know many people that use trout color and it works. Like you said, not a trout for a hundred miles but it gets bit.

Somehow, I have trout colored Rapala hard baits. They bring no memories. Can't remember where or when I got them but I have 3 or 4.
Edit, also have a Yo-Zuri trout looking top water. No idea what I was thinking. But I own it...
