I was out shopping today and picked up a couple of Yum-brellas. I usually throw jerkbaits and crankbaits at suspended bass, but with all the recent (decade long…I’m slow) hype about them, I figured I’d give them a try. Am I the last holdout? Any vital information I should know ahead of time? I’ll be using 50# braid on a heavy, 7’ rod and a 7.1:1 ratio reel. The DD’s should be throwing themselves into my boat from what I deduce from all the online videos and discussions about them.

Most hated lure that I’ve thrown/own, horrible to cast into the wind and constantly snagging on itself. Save yourself the trouble and throw it away now.

They have their moments when they shine, but I have found they seem to not be very versatile for me.

Check tactical bassin for a-rig setup videos.

A-rig is my new found favorite technique. Couple things, 7’ rod and 7 gear reel are setting you up for failure. You need an almost 8’ rod and a slower gear ratio reel.

I love them for certain situations, just like so many other lures.

A 7 gear is going to wear you out. Get something in the 5's

Tell the audience how many hundreds of dollars you’ve spent on A-rig gear and how many fish you’ve caught with them… popcorn

Ah.
Good to know. I’ll use a lower ratio reel and see how it goes. I’ll start with the 7 and if it doesn’t work, spring for a longer one. Heaps of thanks to you and others!

Return on investment is not something us fisherman should EVER consider! We lose every time!
