Looking at picking up a jerkbait rod under $150 for mid sized jerkbaits with a casting reel.

Anyone have any recommendations? I love cork handles, so I'd prefer one that has some cork.

Dobyns Kaden 6'10" crankbait/jerkbait rod on sale with Tackle Warehouse. $143.99, I think it is normally around $179. I ordered one and should get it today. Can't wait to try it out.

I have the same rod but longer, St. Croix Bass X 7'1" Medium fast. The 6'8" can run lighter lures. 1/8 to 3/8. The 7'1" can run 3/16 to 5/8ounce.

My biggest jerk bait is a Yo-Zuri 3 1/2", 7/16ounce. With the 7'1" really being able to send it. 20# braid, 12# mono leader.

The 6'8" works best for me with lure weights of about 1/4 ounce max. 10# braid, 8# mono leader.

Out of all my rods. St Croix is the better of them.

I like the KVD lews jerkbait rods, got them on sale for $75 each and they have done great. I am using a 6'10" MH version. I do not like using crankbait rods for jerkbaits because the parabolic action of the rod will wear you out quick and you really need a much quicker tip to get the bait to perform correctly.

the key for me is the handle length.. Needs to be short to be a good jerk bait rod. I've been using an old Fenwick Venture 7'0 medium that I cut the handle off of.. Now its more like 6'6".

Falcon Cara or Expert Jerkbait is the deal... Both models have similar action with the Expert having a little lighter action. Both are 6'8" with a shorter handle. Both are excellent jerk bait and small topwater rods. Try one and I am pretty sure you will be happy...

I would choose a 6-8 or a 6-10 rod with a fast tip. There are many good brands to choose from.

Shimano
FXtreme
Dobyns
Falcon
Daiwa

Those are my top choices
