A Tenn. angler liked #7 that I posted on a forum and requested it. I threw in the other shapes just to see if they might also do well for him.
Of the lures pictured above, all catch fish when fish are found - at least in the waters I fish. The problem with me sending lures to someone is whether certain basic rules are followed using them as well as the type of water fished. I have no idea of what gear he uses or if he imparts action to lures.

He told me that a manmade lake he fishes has little or no vegetation and that artificial trees made of plastic such as these are dropped:


I don't have a clue how he would catch fish using my lures in that cover except if fish schooled nearby. Key to using those designs is a finesse approach: thin diameter line, light action rod and light jigheads. I suggested he watch them in the water first to see their different actions and how they move with least angler input. In my many years of fishing, I've found that fish go nuts for subtle action lures!

I would love to see some pictures of fish caught proving once again that good lures don't tell fish tales regardless the water.

The majority appear to me as tadpoles. Bull frog tadpoles.

The thing about trying new lures is a mindset that doesn't allow one to see what is possible - in this case the various lure actions by-design. One might say they all look the same, i.e. tadpole or some other simulation of live prey. Years ago I stopped believing that after catching fish on bright yellow, Mr Twister curl tail grubs, Texas rigged, purple Mr Twister Phenom worms and the jig & pig (pork frog trailer attached to a skirted jig). Each has a different action - like the above assortment of shapes - and maybe one or two stand out from the rest at times in subtle ways that generate strikes when using a slow retrieve.

That's my superstition and I'm sticking to it.

Follow-up: My friend caught some nice crappie using a few of the designs. He might fish more this year if weather permits, but like the rest of the nation, it got cold fast!
