Yes. I have two Shimano Baitrunners. 6000 size. Model 6000 OC.

For the light drag mode. You have to have a pole stand that doesn't touch the line. A stand that won't grab the string as you pick the rod up.

Otherwise, it's like imagining you're in the JAWS movie. The scene where the captain is watching the spool click on his Penn 12/0.

I also have one of Shimano 's 6000 baitrunner spinning reels and for the money and how they work using live or cut bait they have been great. Only complaint I have is the lighter drag you get with these reels. The other Shimano reels this size have 24lb. drags which really help. I have tied into 2 really nice stripers at PK that spooled me that was the reason I bought this 6000 bait runner to begin with.

Since getting this reel I like the bait runner function, never fished that type of reel before. Most of my live bait fishing has been in the Gulf and using baitcaster, and lever drag style reels. If one was going to one up the Shimano bait runner reel and get a bigger drag and more bearings, you need to look at the Thunnus.

Shimano Thunnus

Little more expensive of coarse, but I like this bait runner feature so much I do plan on getting myself one of these. So just a few things to consider.

I bought a Thunnus. Their carbon fiber infused frame. Purchased off of Amazon.

As it arrived. It had a gritty spot in the gear train. Thinking it was just because it was new. Needed to be worked a little bit. I sat on the couch and spun the reel. The gritty feeling turned into a nasty click. Spun it some more and the reel locked up. Something was going on with the main gears. Since it was new and under warranty. I wasn't about to go pulling it apart. Not at the price.

I'm sure it was a fluke, A bad reel that got missed by quality control. But talk about a feeling of getting burnt. Sent that POS back. Got another 6000 OC to replace it.

I have several Okuma Epixors that I use for carping and for catfish. I also have the Euro setups with the bite alarms.

Well that is alarming, not like anything all my many Shimano reels. Don't blame you returning it either. I would have never expected that from the price point of the Thunnus...

I have two on the way Tom! Shimano 6000s as mentioned! Just by chance I choose those. Glad to see a lot of guys run them.

Lost two rods in the last year to Catfish. Turned my back and they were gone...just like that. Never again. Never! lol

Keep some 550 cord in your tackle box. Clip on one end, loop on the other. 15' long x2. Since I fish on rocks. Can't use pole stands that stick in mud. Because there is no mud or soft enough ground to jam a pole stand in it. Nothing but slate rock.

Any time I'm set up. I tether my poles at the very end of the rear grip. Tied to a big rock. To where it won't tangle up as you grab the pole to fight a fish.

The 6000 OC are $150 each. The rods are UglyStik catfish, 8' long. ~$50 each.

Screw having a pole shoot off into water.

Grasshopp,

Now why not you use the purple paracord lol. Certainly better than nothing and having your stick getting suckered off the deck or bank. I am not into that at all. If I don't have away I am confident in it staying right where I put it I tie mine down and have for years. It's that or I just use one rod and I hold it. Now I will admit, I don't use purple lol.

Now I do like the uni-knot you tied the snap on with, if that is what you tied there. Looks like one, also know as the Duncan loop knot or the grinner knot. I love messing and with knots lol. Here is a hyperlink to the knot mentioned and this website is awesome on a host of other knots we all use and it has the drawing of how to tie each knot as well as the automation to watch how each knot is done. It's a great website.

It's a hang man's noose on the clip. Wound the traditional 7 times. My nearest army surplus sells packages of 550. 50 feet bundles. They have every color you want to include the boring colors like green, tan, and black

I enjoy knots and rigging. I keep a roll of 30# Trilene next to my spot on the couch. I practice everything from perfection loops, drop loops, surgeon loops, tackle terminal knots, Braid to mono knots. I find knot tying relaxing.
