I had Mick out this morning on Lake Whitney for some striper catching. We started our day launching at McCown, where we watched an impressively large herd of pigs run across the parking lot. After that, we set out in search of birds and topwater action. I didn’t find the fish where they’ve been the last two weeks, but we eventually did see several large groups of gulls spiraling and diving, and it was game on after that. We didn’t start catching fish until a little after 8:00am, but they were still going nuts when we headed back in at 11:00am. We caught two at a time on several casts today, as we were both throwing the Thump Daddy from Constant Pursuit Outfitters, tandem rigged with bucktail teasers from Paul Spraggins. Cast out, let it hit the bottom, start reeling. The fish will take care of the rest! www.dfwoutdoors.com

Thank you Coachzee!
V-Bottom, I like them fresh, and I prefer them blackened. The number one complaint I hear from saltwater fishermen, in regards to eating freshwater fish, is the grain size of the meat. Most saltwater fish have a thicker grain than do a majority of freshwater fish. I’m an offshore captain from June through September, and although striper doesn’t necessarily compare with wahoo, it does favor the texture of a saltwater fish, and is very enjoyable when it’s fresh.

Any good to eat? I was a saltwater man till I moved up here a month ago? Best fresh with all red meat and bloodline removed. We enjoy them fried, blackened, marinated in Frank's then either air fried or baked.Just throw you a mess of dirty rice on the table with them.No they aren't mahi, pompano, flounder or red snapper but damn close for a freshwater fish.If the striper don't do it for buy you a couple perch jerking rigs and load the boat with crappie..........never heard one complaint about crappie regardless of how its prepared.
