12/04/2022: Did a scouting run starting at Kevin's Point to Iron Wall Hump to Spillway Hump ending at Enchanted Isle Ridge. I found plenty of fish at each spot - mostly big white bass (50), a 19 inch hybrid, a short hybrid, and a 13 inch yellow bass. I caught them casting out and working back on the bottom and setting up over them and fishing straight down on the bottom in 17 to 25 fow. I also tried to locate and catch suspended fish out in the deep water. I cruised until I saw a few then turned the thumper on and tapped the floor with my foot as I drifted slowly - about 1 mph. I dropped a #4 Mepps and positioned it in the middle of the fish, which had begun to increase in numbers. I caught white bass by either reeling or lifting the Mepps up through the fish. I fished for 25 minutes and caught 8 fish. Not too bad but not nearly as good as catching them on structure. At Kevin's Point I caught 17 in 30 minutes. Fish are biting readily now, and they seem to be on all the good structures - a good time to fish if the weather cooperates.

12/7/2022: Friend Graham and I went out today and caught 163: 154 white bass, 4 yellow bass, 3 short hybrids, a black bass, and a 22 inch hybrid. I started at 11:15 AM and fished suspended fish down 30 fow in 41 fow. I looked around until I found a few fish, spot-locked there, turned on my thumper, and tapped the floor with my foot. Gradually fish accumulated under me, and I caught 25 whites and a yellow by dropping the lure straight down. If I could see the lure drop, I would start reeling it up slowly as soon as it got into the fish. If I couldn't see the lure drop, I let it reach bottom, and the fish would strike on the 6th to 10th turn of the reel. I used a white and pink #4 Mepps.

Then Graham called to say he was back from Dallas and at my dock, so I picked him up, and we fished structures: Mid-lake Hump, Iron Wall Hump, and Slide Hump. We left at 3:30 PM still catching a fish every time we dropped the lure to the bottom, which ranged from 21 to 26 fow. I continued to use the white and pink Mepps and Graham used a silver #4 Mepps for most of his and a silver 2/5 oz Little Cleo for a few others. Here are some pics:

This white was about 14 inches long and chunky.

I finally got out there yesterday afternoon. I started fishing at 11:45 and headed back to the ramp at 3:15 PM. I had plans to hit a number of areas but the plans changed. My first and only stop was Spillway Hump. I worked the NW corner and caught fish in 19' of water. I then moved a little east and looked at the humps north indentation and picked up a few in 17' to 19' of water. I then wrapped it up by moving to the NE corner and caught most of my fish sitting on the 16' drop off and casting north and east into deeper water. In total I caught 80 fish using the silver Mepps #4. In terms of species, it was a smorgasbord. The majority caught were sand bass. I also caught 4 short hybrids and 3 cats in the 3# range. The strangest thing was the yellow bass. I don't know the exact count, but if I had to guess I would say I probably caught at least 20. I have never in my life caught that many yellow bass at one time. Now you are probably saying why didn't you leave the area? Well, as strange as it sounds, my wife loves to eat yellow bass. As you know, those fish are normally not very big. So I kept around 14 of them for her to enjoy and that's the reason I stayed in that area. I will say that all of the yellow bass and the 2 sand bass I kept, had either egg sacks or milk sacks.

12/09/2022: Friend Cliffshot came to CC and met up with TFFer Ron D. (Ron, I don't know your TFF handle) and then picked me up at my dock at 9 AM. We fished for crappie until about 12:30 PM and then switched to white bass. We caught 25 keeper crappie, and I lost a big hybrid who hit my tiny jig and broke off my light line. We started white bass fishing over suspended fish at 20 to 30 fow in water 45 fow deep. This was primarily to demo to Cliff that we could catch them that way. After cruising around to find a few suspended fish, I used Cliff's paddle to tap the boat floor and draw the fish up under us. After catching about 10 we switched to structure fishing. We caught good numbers at Slide Hump, Enchanted Isle Ridge, and Game Warden Hump. We stopped fishing about 4 PM and ended up with a total fish count of 250 for the day: 213 whites, 10 yellow bass, a legal hybrid, a cat, and the 25 crappie. The lake was like glass all day. Yes, you can do well with no wind. We caught most fish on silver and white #4 Mepps. We also did well with slabs that had small spinners attached - like the Bo-blade and like Bob Maindelle's slab w/spinner. Structure fish were down on the bottom in 17 to 25 fow. We caught most by dropping the lure to the bottom, then reeling up slowly. We did stop by my dock and get the Bobo thumper out of my boat, and that helped keep the fish under us and bring in more fish.

I don’t blame your wife, it’s pretty darn good.

12/26/2022: I made a scouting run to see how the extreme cold weather affected fishing. The water temp was 48.5 degrees. I tried structure fishing and suspended fishing. In 45 minutes of suspended fishing, I caught 7 fish. In the 1st couple of hours of structure fishing, I caught only 8 fish. I could not get them to come up under me with the thumper, so the ones I caught were casting out and reeling in along the bottom. The last hour of structure fishing was at Spillway Hump and Enchanted Isle Ridge, and in both places, I found good schools of fish in 19 to 22 fow, and I could get a bite nearly every cast by casting out and reeling slowly up from the bottom 6 turns of the reel and then letting the #4 Mepps fall back to the bottom and repeat. I caught 20 in an hour and left them biting. All but two fish were fat thirteen to sixteen-inch sandies. I used #4 white Mepps spinner to catch the suspended fish while drifting about 0.3 mph. I tried the hazy-eyed bladed slab but never got a bite.

1/16/2023 and 1/17/2023: Fished from 2 to 4:30 PM on the 16th with Graham and we caught 87 - mostly fat whites. All but 2 were caught on structures in 18 to 22 fow (Long Ridge, Long Ridge West, and Midlake Hump). We caught them straight down on the bottom or casting out and working back along the bottom. We tried fishing suspended fish for about 20 min and caught one legal hybrid and one white. On the 17th, Cliffshot joined us. We went out at 7:45 AM and fished until 11:30. Caught 61 (see pics). Graham and I went back out at 2 pm and caught another 58 in 2 hours. We caught them mostly on 3-Jug Hump, Long Ridge, and Mid-lake Hump. Both days white bladed #4 Mepps was bait of choice.

01/23/2023: Graham and I fished from 1:30 to 5:30 PM and caught 85. We spent the 1st hour drifting and fishing over suspended fish in various depths. We only caught 10 fish - mostly 10 to 11-inch whites plus a couple of 12-inch hybrids. Then we switched to structure fishing and did much better catching mostly big fat female whites and several short hybrids - the biggest being 17.5 inches. We found some on each structure we tried, which included Campbell's Hump, Dam Ridge, Dam Hump West of the Pole, Greenhouse Ridge, and Saint Annes Point East. The big whites seem to be on most structures - even the shallow ones. At Saint Annes, we caught them in 9 to 12 fow. We were catching one just about every cast working the Mepps fast. . We used Mepps #4 white/pink blade. The structure fishing here at CC is unusually good this winter.

1/27/2023: Fished from 9:15 AM to 4 PM with Lenahorse Larry and Cliffshot and caught a total of 80: 73 white bass, 1 crappie, 1 cat, 1 yellow bass, and 4 short hybrids. All but three were caught on structure. The three were caught spending about 1.5 hours deadsticking. The wind was too strong, so we alternated drifting and spotlocking. There were plenty of fish under us - just slow to bite. Most of the fish on structure were fat female white bass. White bladed Mepps 4 did the best, fishing straight down in 18 to 22 fow or casting and working back to the boat in 14 to 17 fow. Water temp was 51.5 F.

2/4/2023: Graham and I went out from 10 AM to 4 PM and caught 48: 5 short hybrids, 3 yellow bass, and the rest white bass. Biggest hybrids were fat 16-inch fish. Several white bass were tournament size. Fishing was tougher today because, when we located fish on structure and caught 3 or 4, they would leave the structure, and we'd have to go find them on another structure - only to have the same thing happen. We found some fish in 15 to 17 fow and some in 20 to 25 fow. Deeper fish were very reluctant to bite - I think because the water was not as clear due to the 4 days of rain last week. Best baits again were Mepps #4 white/pink blade and white hazy-eyed bladed slab. Water temp was 48.5 degrees.

2/27/2023: Graham and I went out from 9 AM to 3:45 PM to check out structure fishing. We ended up catching 116: 107 white bass, 8 yellow bass, and a short hybrid. We caught fish straight down on Long Ridge West in 22 fow, 3 Jug Hump in 20 fow, and Enchanted Isle Ridge in 20 fow. But we did the best at Doll-house Point in 10 to 18 fow casting out and reeling in along the bottom. Mepps #4 silver was the best bait. We also caught some on white-bladed Mepps and Maindell's hazy-eyed bladed white slab. The vast majority of fish were females fat with eggs. We kept about 23 for folks wanting fish. We also checked Key Ranch, Old Pond Dam, and Merimac Point but didn't find fish at these spots.

Was out briefly yesterday. Fish are easy to find and catch with Mepps #4 silver - deep and shallow structures. Water temp is 59 degrees F.

Thanx for the reports and updates, thinking bout fishing the lake from my boat for the first time Saturday.
If I launch near Log Cabin, is there a bait shop on that end of the lake?

Malakoff Bait shop is on Hwy 198 north of Malakoff on the west side of the highway about 3 miles south of the Caney Creek bridge.

Fished from 8:30am till around 1:45 pm, first time taking my boat up, and attempting to learn the lake, we marked fish, got some bites, but only landed 2 small catfish.
Got to witness Dennis Christian who was pulling them in, nice meeting you.

SirDukeOfLor: I'm glad you came up and introduced yourself. If you would like to fish with me sometime, PM me, and we'll set up a date. I enjoy helping others learn the Mepps technique and have taken many TFFers out to demonstrate. My report for Saturday is that Cliff. Graham, and I caught 63 by 12:15 PM, came in to let Cliff off, and then Graham and I went back out for 3 more hours and caught 58. We did best on a Mepps #4 silver plain Aglia spinner jigging it straight down on the bottom and lifting it or moving it sideways. You have to keep it close to the bottom - the fish are not chasing it up. Cliff also caught some on a bladed slab. Most were caught in 18 to 24 fow, but we also caught some at Game Warden Hump in 15 fow and They were larger than the fish we caught deeper. This has been the pattern in the last month - if you can find them in shallower water (10 to 18 fow), they are bigger sandies.

We went by the Rock Pile yesterday afternoon and a boat just beat us to it. He was by himself in a bass boat. Was that you? How did you do? I was out with a church member and we caught 84 mostly big white bass. Best spots were Long Ridge West and Spillway Hump. I'll be out today with college age grandson when ever he gets up.

That wasn't me but l did talk to him , he beat me to the hump so l fished the point instead only ended up catching 25 but they weren't as dig as last week l didn't fish the places you caught yours but did scout a couple of other places . The Enchanted lsle but not as much bait and fish as l graphed last week. Looks like your lake was up a foot or so from last week.

Here's a link to Lone Star Marina, where you can launch in mid-lake area. https://www.bing.com/maps?ty=18&q=Lone+Star+Marina+Tool+TX&ss=ypid.YN873x13318558344104395339&ppois=32.26191711425781_-96.15409851074219_Lone+Star+Marina_YN873x13318558344104395339%7E&cp=32.261588%7E-96.149597&v=2&sV=1&lvl=11.0

March 8-9: Took grandson Andrew out Wednesday and it took a while to find fish. We finally did at Dam Ridge and ended up with 50 fish: 43 2hites and 7 short hybrids. We were using #4 Mepps silver and white fishing straight down in 20 to 24 fow. Yesterday I went out for an hour and 50 minutes on Saint Annes Point West and Saint Annes Drop-off and caught 45: 40 mostly big fat white bass, 4 short hybrids, and a yellow bass. One of the hybrids went 17.5 inches and was heavy-set, pulling like a legal one. Caught all on a silver #4 Mepps in 20 fow. The bigger fish were on Saint Annes Drop-off on the western edge of the ridge.

3/10/2023: Neighbor Graham and I went out from 2:30 to 5:50 PM and caught 102: 91 whites, 10 short hybrids, and a yellow bass. we caught them at Saint Annes Drop-off in 19 fow, Long Ridge in 26 fow, Long Ridge West in 26 fow, and Merimac Point in 15 to 18 fow. We caught them below the boat and casting out and reeling in. We both used a silver #4 Mepps. Graham also caught a few on a Red Mepps with a white skirt. About half the whites were big ones (13 to 16 inches). The biggest hybrid was 17 inches.

March 11-15 (spring break for our family): Have been taking my sister's grandkids out. We have had 6 trips starting Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning with catches of 88, 110, 105, 59, 108, and 120. The 59 trip I took them up north as far as Enchanted Isle Ridge, and we didn't do as well up there. The good fishing has been in Crappie Island Flats, especially early in the morning with lots of bird action. Most of our fish have been big sandies. We've caught 2 legal hybrids and three 17+ inch ones. We have caught all on #4 Mepps - both silver and white blades, fished straight down on the bottom in 20+ fow and casting out in shallower water. You are probably known to them as one fish catching fool. Affectionately of course.

Hello Dennis,
I’m pretty new to cedar creek lake and lake fishing altogether. I’ve been reading / watched your technique but also have a few questions.

I assume you are locating fish with sonar on / around your named locations on lake. Do you now drift, anchor, or troll around the location while you fish? Seems I spend a lot of effort on keeping boat in a location, especially when there is some wind, or I can’t .

Im located a little north of the spillway, what locations would you recommend that are closer to the spillway area to get started?

Thanks

Bearcal: Welcome to Cedar Creek Lake. Once I locate fish I use the spotlock feature of my trolling motor to keep me either over the fish I have found or within casting distance. Before I had spotlock, I used an anchor to keep me where I found fish. The best spots in the spillway area are Game Warden Hump, Enchanted Isle Ridge, the Rock Pile, Spillway Hump. Spillway Point, and Dollhouse Point. Farther north, Sunken Island and the Tennis Courts are the best spots. Here is map showing these last 2 spots:

I really appreciate all of the information that is shared here. I am new to the area and the lake so it is very helpful. I will do my part and post what I find when I get down there with my boys.

Can anyone let me know of a good ramp to use towards the south end or middle of the lake?

Thanks again.

East side or west side of lake? Pay or free or doesn't matter?

East side. I believe it's free.

I’m ok with pay or free. I am coming in from the west but could do west or east side of the lake. Thanks!

Lone Star marina has a $10 launch fee. It is north of the spillway on the southwest side of the lake. The Causeway marina/store on the east side of Seven Points has a ramp. I'm not sure what the fee is. Just past that when you cross the bridge heading east there are a couple of free public ramps.
