I’ve mostly used the Deps Bullshooter 190. It catches the 4 lbs and up bass for sure. I’ve thrown the 250 Slide Swimmer and had some BIG follows but haven’t hooked any yet. Hopefully will change as I put more time in. I’ve also thrown the Savage Gear shine glides and done well with the 5 and 7” versions but need to throw the 9” more this year. I had a Hinkle that I got a few years back, but the value of those went so high, I couldn’t throw it for fear of losing it, so I sold it to fund other purchases. Depending on your budget, starting with the savage gear might be a good plan.

Might have to base your choice off of the biggest rod that you own. Not sure you can go much over 2oz if you just have a flipping rod.

Get a Hinkle shad. And a plug knocker.throw it on 25 pound line. Find a clear water lake and just keep throwing it. You’ll see a dozen giant followers of you do only this till spring

River2Sea S Waver 168 is a solid entry level glide and you don't need special set up to throw it. River2Sea S Waver 168: http://bit.ly/2aiu8ShColor: Light Trout, Bluegill, Warden Hitch

I've found the shine glides to be a good starting price point and performance. You can throw the "small" one on a typical Heavy 7'6" rod decently. https://amzn.to/3VuAtPY

Your thoughts on Jackall Gantarel? Very different bait since it's a multi-joint, not really a "glide" by definition. It has a fast/tight swim action. I've caught a couple on the Jr., wouldn't mind trying the full size.

I’ve got a Gigantrel and it’s a versatile bait. It takes a heavy rod to throw it but it’s got a great action and absolutely gets bit.

You’ll see a dozen giant followers of you do only this till spring You really don't need clear of water to get bit on the Hinkle. I've been bit multiple times on the 8" Gizzard Shad in water with 18" visibility. With regards to the rod choice, you need a fairly stout stick. That bait weighs 5.25 oz.

That's a massive bait...my shoulder hurts for you. Yeah its a chore to throw. Word of caution, if you try to cast it with a heavy flipping rod and go to heave it hard the rod will snap in mid-backcast. Ask me how I know. The rod needs to be rated to cast 3-6 oz lures or you'll have a two piece. I use an old G. Loomis 8' MUR 965 Musky rod. The good thing about this rod is if your boat gets high-centered, you can use it as a push pole. I bought a MegaBass Leviathan but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I make 20-25 casts with the Hinkle then pick up a jig or a worm for a while to rest my rotator cuff.
