Shad or goldfish. Pretty tough but doable, used to fish for them down on the lower end in deep water. But without shad it's tough. With the electronics being better should be easier to locate them. If you know where the trees are on the lower end, hang around there for some big blue cat and stripers. Been 20 years since I fished it, so I don't know the population. But if you want to break off the path, belowTom Miller Dam is a hidden Jem. Town lake (lady bird lake) record striper is 45lbs , Travis is 30lbs. Allot easier pinpointing them in lady bird, but they may have been flushed out over the years. I can only imagine what a zoo Travis is during the summer with the wake boats.

Let us know how that turns out as there hasn't been any recent stocking of stripers and hybrids to my knowledge. Genuinely curious as I would like to go striper fishing.

If there are stripers in Travis, LB or Austin, guarantee we can get them....pull the thumpers out, fish on. Thump them and they will come.....along with the parade of other curious targets. Has always brought in fish.

Found a picture from the mid 90's from a night trip on travis. Shad is the key.... Fishing the tops of the big trees down by the dam.

Could take a snapshots and pin the area that the trees are located. I havent graphs that area before and would love to find trees in that area.

2 years ago I hooked a 32 inch striper at the colorado split during spring time.

My brother back in the day would find stripers under lights in deep water.

This is my best guess, as I know we were by the sometimes island area. Hooked my biggest catfish here, and it got into the dern trees and all I could feel was the 20lb big game in the trees. Was one I lost sleep with. Always wondered how big it was, always at night we did the best out there. Summer time memories..
I didn't have any good electronics back then, not like today's tech. Just a lowrance depth finder, but I could see my weight and bait. When something came in I knew it. We tried close to the dam but always did better on the channel walls in the areas circled below. Trees are somewhere in these areas. Side imaging should pick them out. Never did any good chasing them up. But if you haven't seen the narrows, you haven't seen Travis. Looks like something out of a sci Fi film. We ran from the dam to the narrows one day in my buddies new gambler. Doesn't take long when your flying..

Btw, the tops of the trees are deep, deeper than 40. But I'm getting older and it's kinda fuzzy. I would like to look on my lake master map, might help.

Nice Prosise! With Travis about 42' low right now, those trees may be exposed! And "sometimes island" is now "most times a peninsula"! Only two public ramps open on Travis right now and they are on the opposite end of our area. Cool pics of those stripers!!

My partner in chrome is Brian Boehm. He still lives in the area, maybe someone knows him and can pick his brain
