I'm thinking of sucking up the courage and paying the dang $30 to reserve a spot at Squaw Creek this coming weekend. I've never been to this lake before but have been to other power plant lakes such as Fayette and Bastrop.

After reviewing the topography on the Navionics web app, it looks like there's a few areas with flooded timber. Are there any areas that are known hazardous areas that I shouldn't run on plane?

Most of it is hazardous. The lake is 5” high and most of the timber is just about flush with the surface. I go all the time, and I was almost fubared on a tree yesterday. Got a limb stuck inside the jack plate! bang

Just about felt like a sling shot when I put the boat in gear and floored it! It finally snapped off and ZIINNNGGGG! I was gone!

Hang a left out of the boat ramp cove and you are fine, take a right (north) hang to the right bank and go slow until you see another boat run it. Have fun!

Most of the lake is wide open. I wouldn't call any of it hazardous if you pay attention. Very easy lake to get around

sent message. Be careful though, you'll start thinking you can go any lake and catch 50-100 fish

I think that only applies to Ray Bob, fishes the exact same at Squaw.

This Is very basic… there is a lane to continue north but not one I recommend unless you really know it. Idle once u get to the point with the buoy, you’ll know it when you see it. South end for the most part is wide open

The yellow circle is where I was hung up on the jack plate. [Linked Image]

The backs of almost every cove, in 12 ft or less water, have trees in them. Buda13’s map is a good start, but be careful. It isn’t a super dangerous lake, but your boat can sure get scratched up easily.

I have spent a few hours on lakes. Squaw is full of widow makers.

I’m going to have to politely disagree.. it’s a super easy lake to run until you get north around the point with the buoy. You have to be careful entering creeks or pockets, if you don’t know for sure idle in. Stay to the right 1/3rd when going north past the ramp cove and always stay way wide of the island point. Nothing to be afraid of with the knowledge here plus a little common sense. There are not widow makers scattered all over the lake…. But go flying to the backs of the creeks or get tword the middle running north of the ramp and you’ll find some.

This map is pretty spot on for trouble.
