Just looking for pointers on catfish in Conroe. I do have a boat and not looking for locations just tactics. I fished out of Scott's ridge Sunday afternoon tried 10 to 30 feet of water on both sides, dropoffs and points. Bait used was frozen shrimp and gulp blood shad nuggets. Had 1 bite in 4 hours, saw fish on the finder below the boat and they were tight lipped. Don't mind chalking it up to conditions, timing, post front etc, I know it called fishing not catching... any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Not familiar with that lake bud. BUT I will say if you can get some fresh bait, shad, bluegill, carp etc. that will be a big step in the right direction. Shrimp and prepared baits are low on my list of things that work well. If you have to go there chicken breast has been better for than those you mentioned.
Keep at it! Hopefully someone can give you more specifics on that body of water.

All depends on what you are targeting. Trophy blues, fresh bait. Eater blues and channels, no problem limiting out with prepared bait.

I'm new to fishing Conroe and have caught a lot of eater catfish up to 26". I'm actually on the this site today to see if I can find a few tips for the water temperature change we are now experiencing.
When I was catching cat (new to the lake beginning in Sept) the water temp was 85 degrees. I really prefer to chase Hybrids so my last couple trips that's what I've been looking for. The water temp Wednesday was 73 degrees and I'm sure it will fall into the 60's with the front we now have.

I only fish Conroe in the winter time not looking for eaters just looking for fish over 20 lbs. I have done the best with cut carp , gizzard Shad or Buffalo . I will try to drag baits along ridges , old creek channels etc. . It was a slow wet day Saturday but we caught a 27.5 pounder one close to 20 lbs and several small fish.in about 30ft .
