Went to funeral home today to discuss pre arranging funeral for my wife and I. Took my two daughters for their input. Was a pretty simple process as a whole. Went for cremations with only a visitation. The lady helping us was low pressure and very informative. We are pretty pragmatic and pretty much took the least expensive route. They were pretty flexible. For instance their urns for ashes were way pricier than what you can buy from Amazon but they allowed you to purchase them elsewhere. Wanted to make it as easy as possible for the kids. All of us had input.

My wife and I are considering this same option. Would you care to share a few of the financial aspects of this decision. In general just the overall costs for cremations, urn costs ( Theirs vs Amazon's ) . This could be a interesting conversation. Thanks, if you care to share, if not, I understand.

Just want to make folks smile, and spit coffee on their keyboard.

God doesn't create temporary people, you will spend eternity somewhere. Choose wisely.

My folks prearranged/prepaid for theirs. They even bought their cemetery plots, headstones, and maintenance plans. Then 3 or 4 years later they moved to a town about 75 miles away. So sis and I will only have to handle moving their bodies back to where they want to go into the ground. Still kind of creepy to go to the cemetery and see your living parents tombstones. They are both in their 90's, so they will be making their final moves one of these days.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Yes, it is a good move. Why burden your children with your death. Ours is prepaid, gravesite, cremation and enough for a simple service. They talked us into letting the kids pick out an Urn for the ashes. I got a reduced military rate for my headstone (plaque). The total package was in the $12K range.

I donated my body to UT Southwestern. When Jesus calls me to the bigs, a van will come pick up and that will be the end…no ashes, no nothing, just poof.

“Abbie someone”…lol. My brother and his wife prepaid Neptune Society for cremation. It wasnt- at least back then- as expensive as the Funeral Homes charged. They are both gone now and from what I understand it was very well coordinated all the way to receiving the cremains. This was less than ten years ago.

I told my wife to wrap an anchor rope around me and push me into the lake, funerals are a waste of money.
