Like a year ago and last summer, six of us rented a cabin at Texoma and fished out of three different boats Tuesday (3 of us), Wednesday (7 people), and Thursday (7 people). We caught a total of 241 fish - several sand bass, about 30 stripers 20 inches or better, and the rest stripers under 20 inches. Many of the under-20-inch fish were between 17 and 19 inches. The birds were very active, leading us to schooling fish. However, Wednesday one boat caught 74 fish but only 6 fish came from seeing the birds. The rest were caught on two structures 25 to 35 feet deep. The best area for bigger fish was south of Washita Point about a half mile from shore. We marked more fish on the electronics in that area than in other areas where we found birds.
Our group included Lenahorse Larry, etu Ed, Ed's friend Bob, cliffshot Cliff, Larry's friend Guy, Seapro Todd's friend Steve's brother Terry, my neighborhood friend Graham, and me. Guy and Terry were there for only one day and didn't stay in the cabin.
In spite of our good results, this was a trip fraught with difficulties. On the way up, one of my trailer tires was about to come off when a guy pulled up beside us and called our attention to it. We had a 2 1/2 hour delay at a trailer repair shop in Greenville getting it fixed before we could continue on to Texoma (A big shout-out to Happy Trailer Sales in Greenville!). SeaPro Todd called us on Wednesday and told us he came down with covid and had to cancel out. Also, on Wednesday my boat wouldn't start at the ramp. We pulled it back out of the water and concluded the motor was flooded. Took the spark plugs out, dried them and put them back in, and it would try but just wouldn't start. Finally, we realized the choke was stuck in the on position. We forced it off by pulling on the key, and it started. Also, on Wednesday Guy's boat nearly sank before those in it realized what was happening. They barely made it back to the dock where they found a 16-inch gash in it. Fortunately, Terry came Thursday and we were able to fish two boats that day.
But the fishing was good most of the time. The best bait was 2/5 oz, Little Cleo. Medium-size yellow slabs did well also. Our biggest fish were 16 to 16-1/2-inch stripers - we caught 4 or 5 of those plus several 24 and 25-inch fish. We were going to fish this morning but opted out due to the bad weather. As always it was great fun with a great group of guys. Here are some pics:
