Anyone ever caught a bowfin? i've heard there in Texas but never seen or caught one.

I caught a four pounder years ago on Bob Sandlin. Strongest fighter for its size I've ever seen. Don't lip one like a bass.

I know Fork and Ray Hubbard has them. There is a bass fisherman on Youtube who caught a lake record in the river on Hubbard. He tossed in back without knowing it was a record. If I remember correctly it weighted 13lbs.

I catch several on Sam Rayburn every year. I grew up fishing the Trinity river and it’s back waters. Millions in there.

I have caught them in a private lake, a slough on the Sabine River and Lone Star Lake. Like deucer02 said, they put up a very strong fight and have lots of sharp teeth.

If you fish far enough in the eastern part of the state, you'll get tired of them.
They will destroy every bait you own and get your hopes up in tournaments.
They are the prettiest freshwater fish in the state come spawning time though..
If you think you're the smartest man in the room, you're not. If you know you're the smartest man in the room, find a different room.

Caught one on Fork in Pinson about 30 minutes after I had caught my first bass over 8 pounds. Thought I had hit the lotto on a giant bass when it bit. Reached down to get it in the boat and thought...WTH??? Had never heard or seen one. And yes...LOTS of teeth. And SLIMEY!!!

Caught a 14 lb'er on Toledo Bend years ago crappie fishing with minnows. Luckily he hit my Ambassador and not my Zebco 33.
