I'm new to crappie fishing, can some one please help me out about where do crappie go in the fall? I fish central Tx lakes , Belton and Stillhouse mostly. I heard start looking in the mouth of creeks and then move shallow, I also heard look where the sand and mud meet up because insect larva will hatch and crappie will eat that when shads not around. Also look where the river channel runs close the the bank. How deep do crappie go into the fall and what depths are my starting point. Thank you for all the help this greenhorn can get.

Right now, I would focus on main lake brush piles and/or timber in 12-20ft, and if that doesn't work out, move shallower. I wouldn't over think it too much, and if you don't get bit quickly, but you're seeing fish on you graph, just move on. I live by the 2 minute rule. If I'm on a brush pile for more than two minutes with no bites, and I can see fish on that brush pile, it's time to move on. If you're comfortable with fishing a 1/16 ounce jig, than do so. More than likely, if you're just starting to jig fish, you'll be better off with an 1/8 ounce head until you get really good with boat control.
If I had to pick one color, it would be white and chartreuse.

Not much I can add to Lane's response, he's the pro ! Instead of cross posting, I would just say there are some responses in the "Not even a thump yesterday" thread. You can also ready my Cedar Creek report from my trip yesterday.
