Anyone ever go after the cats with artificials??? I have plans coming soon as I get the honey do's around the house at a dull roar! I want to see if I can specifically target these cats with artificials, I have caught a few of the smaller channel cats on crank baits fishing a mud line in the water. Also caught one nice blue cat that was maybe 3 pounds on a jig hopped across the bottom. None of these was the bass I had been fishing for, not that was disappointing lol...
So, it's something I have never tried was to specifically rig up some tackle to go after the cats with artificials, any of you guys go after them with any sort of artificials? I have some artificials coming that is a really old bait that has been around for as long as I can remember. Once they get here I will rig one up and shoot a pic of it and tack it up here for a look/see at what I am thinking anyway.

Here's my thing about artificial baits and Blue Cats...
I have heard that Blues will hit white plastics under certain conditions. If you find trees where the Cormorants are roosting overnight and you throw a white plastic right against those trees, you will catch Blues. I think this does work. The reason I think it does is because I have thrown threadfin shad like this and it's like I threw it right in their mouth. The idea is the birds roosting will poop out shad that they don't fully digest and the Blues hang out under the trees and feed on them. The white plastic mimics the semi-digested shad and the game is on. Never tried it with the plastic but it makes sense to me that it would work...

I've caught cats many times flipping Gulp worms around trees. So this is very poss!

I have only caught them by accident on artificials. Catch them frequently on slabs while fishing for white bass. Hard to target unless maybe you have a mega live or such. I like the idea of fishing under the cormorants with a white lure. Maybe like a white craw Tx rigged with a fairly light pegged weight. I reckon one would have to use a heavier hook too.

I have caught several caught several channels and blues on a blue/Crome rattle traps trolling for white bass. A friend that I worked with back in the day caught a quite large flat head on a plastic worm while bass fishing.
