I'm looking for an ultralight spinning reel, mostly for panfish. What is everyone using out there? Any input would be really helpful.

And a good rod to match, or a good reasonably priced combo.

I would recommend the Pflueger president 20. Very smooth, good drag & seems to last forrever.

Shimano Sienna 5 or 10 for panfish. You don't need an expensive reel for pan fish as they are not going to take a lot of line or test your drag. Anything over $31 is a waste of money.

I gotta second the Daiwa Revros and Regal. I have 4 Revros 2000's set up with 6 lb test for crappie and 3 Regal 3000's wearing 15 lb test for white bass/hybrids/striper.I also have several Daiwa BG's size 2500-6500 set up for channels/big blues/flatheads/saltwater.Although they make panfish size BG's the $100 price tag might be a little much unless you plan on hitting the saltwater or passing reels down to your grandkids that can pass them down to their grandkids.Yea I been a Daiwa guy for a loooooooooooong time and in my humble opinion you won't find more quality for your buck out there.

Agree, used one for a wacky setup for bass and it performed perfectly and I still use it for crappie and light bass stuff.

Daiwa Kage 1000 with matching 5’6 ft Kage Ultra lite rod is what I use. Not cheap but a pleasure to fish with. Can cast a 1/16 jig a mile. Do not agree with the above post about going cheap.

I agree the Daiwa Kage is a great reel. If I had one, I would want to pair it with a fairly unique ultralight rod with character like The Rambler from the Moonshine Rod Company.

+1 on the Pflueger line... i've got this little reel size 20, read the stats it has a lot going for it, especially good drag as well - something needed for the 4lb test I have it spooled with, and for $50.000 it won't break the bank ! I would buy it again, but I don't see this reel ever giving out...

Pflueger President in the 20 size on an All Star medium light dockshooter rod.

I have two of these set ups and really enjoy them for dock and creek fishing.
Just stout enough in case you accidentally hook into a 10lb catfish, 15lb carp, or a four pound bass.

If you plan on fishing saltwater with your set up, +1 on the Daiwa BG 2000

Checked out their website. Nice looking rods. One of my Kage ultra lite rods is a two piece. Just lacking a pack case so it would be similar to the Rambler but not as nice looking. . I got the Moonshine Rod Company web site saved. If I need another spinning outfit I will give them a call.

I have 2 Regals, one matched with a St. Croix and the other with an Okuma SST.

I actually use the trigger spin ulta light reels and have some that I bought back in the 70's and 80's that still work fine. Probably the closest thing produced to what I have is the Zebco 33 Gold MicroTrigger Spin reel; strapped to a 5 foot ultralight spinning rod, awesome. Tie the smallest beetle spins they make on 4 pound line and just wear the blue gills out when the are on the beds. The thing that I really like about these reels is they seem to not have the line twist issues you get with regular spinning reels. Also once you've used one for a little while you quickly realize you get more cast at the fish because using a trigger vs flipping a bale; the trigger is just so much faster.
