I live in the Land of Gar and have decided to start knocking out my bucket list on some fish. Smallmouth is one I've never caught that I would really like to. I know Grapevine is supposed to have some (I've only ever caught Largemouth there), any other lakes or tips are welcome to check this one off. Also, I don't have a boat so I know this may be a long shot since I'll be beating the bank or trying to find a dock to fish. Also, have a trip coming up to knockout Redfish and Speckled trout. Cheers!

The dam area at Texoma would be a good place to try. Small crankbaits work well.

Like previously mentioned Texoma or Temple Park area on Lake Belton.

Texoma also...run the main lake rock bluffs with jerkbaits and smaller swimbaits like Keiteh 3.8.

Tubes and ned rig will also would well. As the water gets colder I'd favor jerkbaits. Lived on Texoma for 2 years
and any of the points and bluff walls around Eisenhauer state park are good.

Since you don’t have a boat... and texoma is prolly the most opportune lake to catch one from, I would suggest filling your spools full to make the longest cast possible, take a pop’r, a 1/4 oz rattle trap chrome/shad, some square bills and head down to Eisenhower State Park and find your way down to the water...also if your up for a hike and can get down to the rocks along the dam this will prolly be your best opportunity to catch Smallmouth, Largemouth, white bass, Stripers...just parallel the bank, you should be able to see some rock jetties that poke out from the dam, they are kinda short but being a “change” the fish gravitate to them... the dam can be productive all day long too so pack a lunch and some waters... good luck to you, post how ya make out.

From the shore all around Eisenhower State Park or the Oklahoma Corps Parks on Texoma is your best bet for getting smallmouth. Fish the rocky areas, especially where it transitions from larger boulders to gravel and the drop-offs closer to the main lake!

Parallel the bank with your casts as much as possible. Baits above as well as jerkbaits and ShakeyHead worms.

Grapevine Smallmouth are accessible from the bank. I have caught majority from the bank there myself. Not as plentiful as at Texoma but there is less area they can be at. The steep cliffs by rockledge and the cliffs around silverlake marina is where 90% of the smallmouth on Gvine live IMO.

I am unashamedly listening in on this thread. It’s been almost 30 years since I caught a smallmouth and I’m about 2.5 hours from Belton. I’m thinking of heading out there in a few days (with boat) to see what’s what.

If u want to drive 3 hours up to Lake Lawtonka in Oklahoma this fall I will take u out and can almost guarantee u will catch a nice smallmouth. I don't have alot of free weekends but since ur a Veteran or serving all u will have to do is buy ur daily fishing permit and gas to get here. I have a boat and will take u free of charge. I have caught them up to 7.2. It's where the current state record is from. Just send me a private message and we can work out the details if u r interested. Thank u for ur service.
