I've noticed Lake Lewisville is releasing water at a rapid pace. Is it because they are still doing work on the dam or is it for some other reason?

Good question. Noticed the same thing.

Found this in an article about the seepage.

The repairs are expected to include new berms in the seepage area, more monitoring equipment, a new drainage system and anchors to connect the spillway to bedrock under the dam.

That work is expected to cost $100 million to $200 million. It's expected to start about two years earlier than expected if they can get some funding from the 2019 budget available in 2018. The work is projected to be completed in 2023 or 2024.

so maybe they are gonna work on it.

I have read about "draw-downs" for years, but I have never heard any explanation of why.

When dams are built they determine a minimum amount of release to keep the original river flowing. Ray Roberts is 25cfs. Texoma releases 88cfs. Lewisville is one of the highest around here at 420cfs.

There's no draw down. It's just the normal release rate for Lewisville. It's not much at all. Just the minimum they need to release to keep the Trinity river moving.
