The cast netters were everywhere Sunday. Casting off the boat docks, in the swimming area, every place in between, and all over the banks at Oak Thicket. I saw two boats running groups of netters to different parts of the lake all morning. The netters on the boat docks were slinging slime and water borne [censored] on the boats tied up at the docks. This was complicated by the fact that a group of yakkers took over one lane of the ramp launching. one guy in particular took more than 20 minutes to clear his truck and then took another 10 to move his yak five yards down the bank off the ramp. The lake fished tough, but the fish I caught were super healthy and fat. I can't believe the sheer volume of netting traffic the lake is getting.

The last two times I went, the sheriff's department had a deputy on sight doing boat checks and checking licenses, etc. It is a step in the right direction for sure, but I think the damage to the lake has been done.

They won't ever do it, but I wish that they'd just ban the cast netters. I wonder how the constant netting of all the grass in that lake affects the bass population and vegetation. I can't imagine it's good for either.

Would you rather have the amusement of cast netters, or would you rather they add grass carp? roflmao

I avoid the lake on weekends if at all possible. The cast netters aren’t as bad on weekdays. I’ve never seen them slinging crud at boats, but I’ve seen them set up all around the ramps and docks and barely move away for launchers. Seen kayak and boat guys exhibit unbelievable incompetence at launching too. Plenty of stupid to go around.

They will never need to put grass carp in Fayette as there isn't any reason to complain about thick mats of grass. Hell I haven't seen grass mat up in 20 years there

People drive around in boats and just throw cast nets? Is that what you’re saying? Is that legal?

I've seen them load up in 10 ft jon boats 5 people deep, go to a cove and drop people on the other side of the lake. It's ridiculous.

I’ve seen that a lot. They cruise from spot to spot, the. Throw from the boat along a stretch of shoreline (usually one somebody in a bass boat is wanting to fish). After awhile, they either move on or a couple of guys deploy and wade around in neck deep Al water flinging nets. The fish are either long gone or used to it by now, but I mostly fish offshore anyway, so unless I’m hellbent on frogging, I just shake my head and move on.

Not familiar with Fay. Co. - what are the netters targeting? Tilapia like on SC? Shad?

Tilapia mostly, although I absolutely believe they keep bass too.
