I’ve always used braided line for trophy blue cats but I just ordered 6 Garcia 7000s that I’m going to dedicate to drifting and I’m gonna use minim what test are y’all running?? Im thinking maybe 30 so I can get more line on..??

3 way swivel rig or you can tie your weight leader to hang below on a standard 2 way swivel next to main heavy line leader.
I always tried to use very light weight leader line to help that part break off easy since it usually hangs up the most (maybe 6-8 lb)
25-30 lb main line
50-80 lb leader line to help with nicks and abrasion.

No idea what minim is, I’m guessing mono. I would say spread your line out, have a 20 lb rig, 2 or 3 25lb rigs and 2 or 3 30lb rigs.

I agree with the above, using a light weight leader that will break off if it gets hung and doesn’t cost you the whole rig.
40-50lb fluorocarbon leader for the baited line.

I use 30 lb mono main line and 60 or 75 lb mono leader line.

Lot of opinions here... like most everything else.

I have most of my drift rigs with 30 lb. Trilene Big Game in the "solar collector" bright green color. Shows up good in daylight and night. Then 60 lb. mono leader. I change the line every year... cheap enough that it does not break the bank. I have had really good luck with it.

I also have some rods with 80 lb. braid. I like the braid in the spring in shallow water with grass, etc. anchor fishing. But have caught plenty of fish with braid while drifting also. The 80 lb. braid and heavy mono leader do make it hard to break off if you really get hung up bad... wrap the line around the net handle to keep from cutting your hand and or pulling = cutting down into the spool.

I go 30lb with a 20-25lb leader. I’d rather loose a hook, and keep my weight and swivel.

I am a braid guy all the way. Me and Mono don't get along. I have fished with guides that use mono and it has always been 30 pound. I've landed some big fish using that 30 pound test mono. I run 65 pound braid on all my reels and 80 pound mono leaders. I really think either is fine. It's all a matter of personal preference...

I have a question that somewhat applies to this post, you guys that have multiple rods for this sort of fishing and you want to rig each of the rods out with different test lines, how do you keep up with which rig has what test line on it?

If your reels are different, I get it by keeping up with the reels. That is easy enough. I just think if I had 4 or more rigs all the same to rig up for this, I would have to rig mine all the same, otherwise I would never know which rig was what.

You guys have any good methods to know which is what, I sure would be interested in that. As always thanks so much for sharing...

I use 25lbs myself... but its a preference thing for sure.

My catfish rods are all pretty easy to tell, by the color and type line.

BUT - I crappie fish also, and do use different lines for different things - dock shooting, shallow, deep, etc. I take a small piece of tape and write the line info and date on it, and tape it to the rod up above the reel where mostly dry and not being rubbed a lot. Easy to read, easy to change as needed. Older I get, more I need to write things down... now I just need to remember where I put the tape and the pen?

Ken, you crack me up! My first thought when reading your reply was "how would I keep up with tape and a pen on my boat"! I love the idea of putting the date on it. I never know how long I've had line on a reel.

That sounds perfect man. I to write things down or else lol. I got an app on my smart phone that I have been using for years now. To keep up with oil changes, serial numbers, rpm speeds and what gear that I spray this and that with my tractor, just all sorts of things.

I even have actual pix of things to help jog myself as to what, where and all that sort of thing. I have several reels that are the exact same and while I do have them on different weights of rods, the rods are all close looking from appearance, some longer and vice versa, but I took pix showing the specs on the rod and what reel and made notes in that app, as to what rig has what.

Heck a block head like me, I thought it was a great idea to know what rig had what...
Problem being while out fishing just having great time doing this with that, it's a pita to put everything down and open the app and go to my fishing equipment file and see what is where lol...

I don't won't to mess up my reels or sticks marking them and yet I have a need to know exactly which rig to grab for what that would be just that easy. I fish for just about any and everything from one time to the next. 8 pound fluorocarbon leader is not what I would grab by choice to throw something to a blowup of stripers, if I can know what is on which rig...
