Mine was Boy Scouts - big pond/lake on one of the many private ranches we were fortunate to be allowed to access. I won biggest and most bass, but they decided to give one of the prizes to another kid.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Back then, people didn't go PETA when you ate a bass.

I won the bass side, wish I would have kept the trophy...

no photo but it was back in the late 80's with dad and his bass club. we won a few small club tournaments. dad was a texas rig throwing guy. brown powerworm was his juice. i fished with whatever he let me use, which was mostly jigs now that I think about it. I know why now... to reduce hang ups But the jig is my juice thanks to him and my stepdad.

I might still have the knife I won somewhere.

Texoma bass club around 1985 with my uncle Steve. We were fishing out of a 21’ prototype bass boat with a hoped up 235 OMC. Felt like it ran 100mph.

Media Bass Fall team open on Fork in 2004… back when Media drew 90+ boats per tournament. First real stringer tournament I ever entered and we won it. Lol. Ruined for life!

Can’t remember my first win. It was a local club deal. I remember my first ever tourney back in 1979…I was 11 and I got 7th out of 200 or so “wannabe pros”. I was fishing from the front of my dads jet boat. I won $170 and a butt seat. We laughed because the butt seat for a bass boat was useless to me. Lewisville lake.
First solo win in a bigger tourney was a Media event. Cedar Creek.
Sad. I really can’t remember the first win. It was a team tourney, just don’t remember which lake.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Haha, that was the 2day event on Fork. It was one of the funnest events all year. Ed and I won it in 03, I believe. Day 1, we had a sack of unders at 12.92. That was the heaviest sack of unders for a while until they started catching 13# sacks around 07 or 08. Day 2, Ed caught an 11.18 to go with 4 more great unders and that was that.

I had two high 10s sacks of unders in 04 and lost to Buda and Tad. Pretty sure I was 2nd in 03. Elton made me a second plate "paper plate" trophy.
