Texas Parks and Wildlife is doing a study on the blotchy bass spots that look like ink blobs. If you submit a photo/when/where you caught the fish you get entered for a chance to win a Bass Pro gift card (they're giving out many). Just thought I would share, good info to pass along to some young guns too. Pass it on!! Information on where to send the photos etc... is in the picture below. Have a good day.

Brandon said this is just a side effect of the COVID vaccine. Once all bass populations are vaccinated, then the blotches should disappear.

I've caught one or two out of Fork and Pat Mayse. Back in the early 90's I caught a couple of dinks that were solid white out of Mayse as well. Don't know if they were albino or just that way from lack of sunlight. That lake used to get pretty muddy and stay that way. The locals call it Pat Mud......

Same here. Fish always looked healthy otherwise.

Have caught a bunch of them. Always in the colder months. Seems to have something to do with cold water to me.

Does the blotch extend into the filets or just the scales and skin?

I asked area biologist about it around 2011. He said it was scars from the spawn. I told him I had fished for 35 yrs prior and never caught any that had the blotches. …….crickets………. . Finally he said, we will research it again with a horse exhale??? I was speaking about barren, green, and cumberland.
