Any recommendations for a guide on Lake Amistad? Going to be in Del Rio October 24 - November 6.
Thanks

Genuine question... Fishing still any good out there like it was 15-20 years ago?
Got some family out there who tell me the water is way too low.

Good luck 6BOOMER and quick recovery.
I have another shoulder surgery scheduled at the end of November. Hopefully only out about 60 days.

Grout Scout your buddy is not alone.. It can be very tough right now, with the water rising the fish are scattered like a mad women's laundry.
It's like fishing a new lake every few days. The fish are like me-- they don't know what to do or where to do it.
Hopefully as the water level stabilizes and clears up the fish will get into some type of pattern or at least pick a place to stay for more than a day.

It's nothing like it was 15-20 years ago.
IMO it's not so much the level-- I've seen the fishing phenomenal at this same level. There are numerous reasons for the lake going from "the best in the world" to Just an average fishery. I feel the biggest single culprit was the year they dropped the lake level over 60 feet in a few months and killed all the Hydrilla. The bass lost their home and their buffet line. The only ones that survived-- learned to live in open water with the whites and stripers. Even though there's abundant hydrilla now there are a LOT less fish to populate it. Every time things start looking good for the fishery something seems to set her back again. Like letting water out at the worst times for the fishery.

Rapid drops every spring to supply the farm fields in Mexico also destroy beds and spawns. Not just the bass's but baitfish as well. I swear every time I fish there maybe 1 in 10 bass I catch look healthy. The other 9 have sunken bellies and looked starved. Lake will never be what it used to until the good food source is replunished.
