Boy oh boy! October... Have I been waiting for you! And like Mitch McConnell you are here in name only. We should be in a different weather pattern by now. Yes it is a little cooler but the pattern has not changed. We have been and still are under the influence of high pressure due to the locked in ridging that has been in place since June! Until that ridge is busted, we are going to stay dry and warm.
I am a bit of a weather geek and I watch a segment on YouTube about the behind the scenes forecast development. It's about a half hour of long range forecasting and development of same. It goes into great detail about the 500 mb forecast in the mid levels of the atmosphere. The focus is and has been on the ridging and high pressure.
In my humble opinion, once we get some rain... Significant rain, 5 or 6 inches that does not come down in 2 hours... and the water temperature drops to below 70 degrees. It is gonna be on. The way we are going that is gonna be after thanksgiving but those two things are going to be the triggers we need.
I think last winter spoiled us. The weather was cool, water temps were steady and in the mid 50s for a good long while. We caught loads of toads! I hope we can do so again this year. Time will tell.
Here is a link to the weather geek video I was talking about...
