Ok boys and girls. Don't want to get blasted for buying a boat that doesn't have a title.
So with that preface, I bought a boat for way cheap from a fellow. I want to redo the interior and have the motor overhauled then use it around here on our small lakes. Turns out the guy I bought it from was gifted it several years ago and is not even sure of the guys name. As the boat sets now it is a true project boat. So I would like to get it registered and titled. Is there any way to get that done?

Best of luck to you. Without a title or an affidavit from the previous owner (if it was an out of state purchase) you're pretty much SOL. I wouldn't waste any more time on it unless you plan on using it on private water only.

You can check with TP&W about a bonded title. I just went thru the same thing. Took a while, but I finally got my titles. I believe it took about 9 months. Good luck

My experience is that if the boat never had a title, it's doable. If it has a title floating around somewhere but you don't have it, it gets really difficult if not impossible.

Here are the forms that you will need to get a bonded title. It will take a min. of 6 months. Unless you are super fast in your rebuilding process, you will be able to get the title about the time you are finished.
Abandoned Boat and/or Outboard Motor Request for Bonded Title Review (PWD 1344) Verification of Vessel or Outboard Motor Serial Number (504).
You might also explore to see if you qualify for: Request to Skip Titling Requirement of Previous Owner(s) (PWD 1238) You can look these up and get the explanation of each. It is a long drawn out process but time will pass quickly as you are working on the boat. Hope this helps.

50/50 chance at best, I had a good friend who after a long drawn out process got denied on title. Vessels are bad, motors are even worse.

A good friend died and I have his jon boat but the family had no idea where the title was. I gave up on the process to get a new title because of the hoops you must go through, GOOD LUCK.
