It is quiet around here lately. I haven't been in a couple of years and wondering if anybody has been recently. I am thinking about going in 2-3 weeks, but don't remember so few reports or conversation. It is either great or too slow to fight the heat.

Its's slow right now. If you want better updates, which aren't much, go check out Pete Dodge or Rick Denton's FB pages.

Fayette is in turnover right now. Lots of dead fish all over the lake. Yesterday, the water temps were 89º to 101º.

This post started on September 1st. Not a single new freshwater report since.

Give it another month and it should be pretty good. I'm planning an early November trip myself.

OK...Here is a report on FCL. I normally only post in the Bluegill section but will make an exception for Rayzor. I fish FCL once a week for both Sunfish & bass. This time of year I split it up 50/50. Right now the bass bite is SLOW. Last week I started at daybreak &didn't get a single hit until 2 pm. Just happened to get on some feeding fish at that time and ended up with 22. You can catch all the Sunfish you want if you know what you are doing, but that bite will end by the 3rd week of October. I fish for bass on the deep-water humps & points and also target the rocks. As wabash said it should start picking up in November as the water starts to cool. If you want to see my week by week reports on this lake, please visit the Bluegill section if the forum...

Keep up the great fishing Steve! Side Note: You can read his main post in the Bluegill/Sunfish Forum.

I murdered on Fayette all summer long. When folks were complaining the fishing was tough, I was having 50 fish half days with 25-30 lb bags. That hayride came to an end last Saturday when I was out there. In 4 hours I had 4 fish, the biggest being 4.5lbs. It tied for the worst day I've ever had out there in 200 or so trips over the last 9 years. The water had about 6 inches of visibility. I don't know if the lake was turning over or if it was an algae bloom, but the water looked horrible. Lots of dead fish. I assume that had something to do with the tough fishing, but who knows, maybe it was just a bad day.
All that said, I don't understand the physics of power plant lakes. I've heard guides say the lake can turn over multiple times in the fall. I'm not sure how that happens particularly when temps haven't really changed. So maybe algae is the culprit effecting oxygen levels. All I know for sure is my last outing was brutal.

JP...I had the same experience last Tuesday. Agree that this past year up until a week ago was just stellar. I was catching big numbers of big fish all summer long & thinking that it will pick back up soon...

That's par for the course. If you're not caching 50-100 a day with best 5 over 25 during the summer your just fishing completely wrong. Come September the lake turns over and is a dead see until we get good solid fronts. Been that way for 20 plus years.

Last year and the year before there was a pretty good sized fish kill this time of year also. Seems to be common and I’ve seen it happen many times in the 15 years I’ve been fishing it. Find happy fish this time of year and you can do ok. More times than not, I’ve had it tough though so I make tracks for the coast to chase redfish until November.
