Me and my dad were super excited when we got an invite from Sea Pro Todd to fish Tawakoni on Sunday. We have always heard great things about fishing there but had never been and didn't know anything about the lake. We started fishing about 9:30 and finished around 5pm. We started at Greenville Pump Station and I caught a fish on my first cast with the MAL! We saw the Boyer boys (Ray, Terry, & Brad) fishing there too and it was great to see other TFF'ers. Todd is an awesome host and showed us around the lake and took us to most of the community holes. He is a master at finding fish (and catching them too) and at pretty much every spot we stopped at the graph lit up with fish. The tricky part was getting them to bite as they mostly wanted the smaller Mepps (#1 & #2) retrieved really slowly and we got lots of tap-tap-tap with no hook up. We stopped at a couple of spots where the hybrids and stripers hang out and I went back to the MAL (chartreuse tail and white blade) and caught 2 small hybrids and a few big whites using the sawtooth method and I hooked into a big fish that was taking drag but it got off before I could see it. About halfway through the day, the trolling motor stopped working but that didn't slow us down. My dad's new nickname is "iPilot" because Todd would yell "stop" and dad would drop the anchor! We went around the lake and caught a few fish at almost every spot we stopped at and finished back at GPS where the clicker hit 100. I caught my new PB white bass that was 16.5 inches … I couldn't believe it!! We worked hard but it was worth it getting to learn a new lake and a new fishing buddy. That won't be our last trip to Tawakoni … it was awesome!

Congrats on a good day. Tawakoni can be intoxicating for the size and numbers of white bass. Todd knows the lake well and how to catch them when it is tough in August and September. Good to share your blessings, Todd! bow_down

It was good to see you guys as well, we were in the Blue Ranger at the Pump House Am & Pm with the Gimpy T-Motor as well.
Agree it was fish everywhere, but difficult to make them bite.
Until next time....

Great read and thanks for the great writeup, Lincoln!  You pretty much saw the same thing I did and telling it like it is  and i love it thumb

I met the Book family at the CC White bass tournament 3+ yrs ago  (and only time) and had instant admiration on how Dad (Rick) teaches his very young boys to fish and their love for the sport and they came in first places, for kids and adult, I think. Then I've been following them on TFF reports on their tournament successes at various  lakes over the years that made me even more a fan of the Books. Lincoln is a high school sophomore now and I can witness in my boat he has really good instinct on catching and has the obviously good teacher, his Dad. This kind of stuff just warms my heart and i really enjoyed the day and it went by kinda too quick imo lol.

My goals were to show off Tawakoni and put the Books on numbers and some good bigs. We achieved the numbers and almost caught the bigs on the MAL. For good mags number we fished upper half, for bigs we moved and hunted more in the southern holes. But my TM crapped out halfway and we all stayed cool and calm made good lemonade out of lemon lol.

I already warned of the very finicky bites this time of year and it was really cool to see we got more hits (light tap taps) when we downsized to smaller lures. The bigger lures like the MAL can still catches some but its tuffer this time of year for shallower fishing (7 to 15 ft) in this part of Texas Lakes, the sandies mostly ignore bigger lures like slabs or even #4 mepps. The lake is currently loaded with micro shads.

I am sure in a normal pattern, the 3 of us would caught crazy high numbers but i am very content with the success on the day and the current pattern and manual voice command "spotlock" . Lol. Thanks, Rick!

Really good fishing next to the Boyers and TFFers out there. I had a fun day sharing and playing. Good luck guys!

Graphs look like this at most spots but getting them to bite is challenging lol

Todd is a machine out there! We had pretty much the same graphs with similar results. We did get some active fish to eat a slab. We had a little guy so trolling was the ticket for him. We knocked them out pretty quick with the trolling technique. Crazy how well they bite a trolled lure compared to a casted lure. Todd and those Mepps lures can make it happen for sure! Hope y’all enjoyed Tawakoni!
