As a reel cleaner and repair man I see many reels. Most have exact components. The biggest difference would be the drags system and variable braking system. Imo Lews has the best drag. I have been very impressed with Diawas which I think has same style drag as Lews.

Getting a decent reel on sale adding ceramic bearings and an after market handle could save you some money. There are just so many different types of today. More reels to catch fisherman than reels to catch fish for sure.

I have an Abu Garcia Revo X. It's a really good reel for the money. Only thing that bothers me about is how loud it is when reeling/winching. If there was a way to make that go away it would be flawless in my opinion. It can cast a mile. Even as far or further than my Tatula and Smoke S3's.

I just bought 6 off this site, and they were here within a week. These new ones now have larger cranks, and I love them. I'll probably be replacing another dozen...

I love Revos. I have about 30. Unfortunately, I had major wrist surgery a year ago that didn't go well. l gave to switch to left-handed reels. I will be posting Gen 1-3 S, SC, STX, Winch and a couple of Orras soon. It's amazing how well they perform if you maintain them properly.

The original 5000 had a 3.8 to 1 ratio, and they do seem very slow compared to the reels of today. But the old reels will still work. I have a 1958 model that was the first one my dad bought. He used it several years and then let me have it for my first baitcaster, and bought himself a 1962 model. I still have both reels and still use them some. They are not as good as my other reels in any way, but they aren't that much of a handicap either. I replaced the bushings with bearings and they both work better than ever. I really doubt that my other reels will still be working 60 years from now.
