II have some great Llano river access but don't fly fish so I am looking for recommendations on the best ultralight spinning lures to use.

I have fished the Little Missouri in Ark before and wonder if the small crankbaits and soft plastic crawfish/grubs that worked there will do as well on the Llano.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

I have canoed, kayaked and fished lots of rivers in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas including the Llano and South Llano Rivers many times. I have caught fish on small worms, small crankbaits, buzzbaits…….but hands down my two favorite river lures are a clear Tiny Torpedo(small topwater prop bait) and a 3”-4” curley tailed grub on a 3/16-1/4 ounce jig head. Any color…..as long as it’s chartreuse! Honestly tons of baits will catch those river bass but if they aren’t biting that curley tailed grub then they are NOT biting. Works everywhere! Good Luck! Thanks for the suggestions. I got some shad and some chartreuse grubs and plan to try them tomorrow or Wednesday.

I fished briefly about a month ago and caught one small Guadalupe on a trout magnet crawfish. Hoping for more fishing time and better luck this trip. Will report on my results.

Thanks again.

I used to fish the Llano south of Mason quite often. My go-to lure was a Rebel teeny wee craw for LMB and Guadalupe Bass. I'm sure any shallow running crankbait in craw pattern would work. In-line spinners as a backup. Good luck and hope that helps.

I only fished about 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon but got a number of bites, a couple hooked that got off and one Guadalupe bass landed. Interestingly, the landed fish was on a 1 inch red crawfish pattern Creme floater/shallow runner single treble hook crankbait!

The powerbait pogeys (substitute for sassy shad) got several bites and hook ups.

Started with the chartreuse grub but didn't get any bites. In fairness, I didn't get any bites until I moved to a different location.

I got a couple of hook ups on a two inch plastic crawfish but lost it before I could catch anything but it was getting a good bit of interest.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I will be using these same lures next time I go and expect better results as I will be prepared to wade and not just hop from rock to rock!

Look for moving water. Slower deeper stretches can be good but the faster water especially directly below some rapids will usually hold the greatest concentration of bass.👍

All the above but keep a mepps #2 silver blade white tail handy

call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.
