I have used many reels and have feel in love with Abu Garcia baitcasters. I know everyone has their favorites and opinion on what reel is the best. I would to hear your thoughts on why. Might just help someone reading this thread make a good buy for their needs. Amazon has some of my favorite Abu reels on sale. The Revo SX is $104, the Revo S is $84, and the Max Stx LH is $46. I will put the links below for those who are interested. I do own all of those reels but my absolute favorite is the Revo Rocket followed by the Revo SX then Revo X. Daiwa are pretty good also. Just my 2 cents,

Revo S

Maybe number 4 brand at best. Better keep your reel oil handy.

Never had an issue after all these years. However, they are only used in fresh water. I do clean and oil about every six months.

I have several Revo (8) SX's and STX's (4) plus several new in the box Revo's. If you take care of them they will last. I have them from gen 1's to gen 4's.

I have been a Daiwa user since the late 70’s
I use both their reels and rods. I have both the baitcasters and spinning reels and like them.
But…………….
I have bought a bait casting rod and reel that is a 13 fishing brand. I am very impressed with this setup. I have told one of my fishing buddies I might be switching over to 13 Fishing now.
He ask me how much I wanted for all my Daiwa setups, I told him the first $2000 with get the lot of them.
I will get maybe a couple more 13 Fishing rod/reel combos and give them a good try out before switching. I do love my Daiwa Tatula’s.

I just started buying the newer low profile reels about 3 years ago; I still have my old 5000 based reels and some Quantum reels that were high end in their day. I've purchased the Abu Garcia Pro Max and Black Max reels as well as the Lews MG series reels, I prefer the Abu reels over the Lews for sure. The Lews reels have a tendency to not let the drive engage after casting when you first start to use them early in the day even if they are lubricated regularly, They'll only do it the first time you cast and then after that they are good to go the rest of the day. It seems to not be an issue if you tear them down and clean them every other trip. The abu reels never have this problem and they seem to cast smoother and further as well. Probably going to branch out to some more expensive reels and maybe some different brands as I'm doing research right now for the best I can afford flipping/pitching set up and a real sensitive worm/jig combo as well. Probably spend $400 to $500 on each set up.

I too only upgraded to revos from abu round reels maybe 4 years ago.
I mainly have revo sx , orra 2, revo x and pro max such is a great reel it’s always on deck.
The round ones mainly 4500s and 4600s where hard for me to give up but I wouldn’t sell one of them.

I agree.. I have been using Abu Garcia reels since the late 60s. I currently use Revo SX and SXT bait casters and on SX spinning reel. They just work for me.. My fave place to get them is Ebay also. I started with Red 5000A's a black 5000C, then the 4600C3 and C4 getting into higher speed. Great reels for me

I bought a second Revo SX recently at the $105 price and it's a great reel so far. We'll see how long they hold up.

I have one of the black 5000c's and currently still use it on my Carolina rig chunker. That reel is probably almost as old as I am. I bought it used back in the 80's and upgraded the handle with a power handle and other than that it's stock and all original. I really didin't realize how slow these reels are compared to today's technology until a recent trip to Bob Sandlin I was using it and would start to rip my lure back when I got close to the boat and it seemed like it took forever. That could be a good thing this winter though.

Yep. Got 15 or more of them. Found the OrraSX marked down few years ago for 49 buks and bought few. Have a bunch of the old 5500s and 4 of the old red Winches. That 3 8 1 ratio is slow but you can slang a crankbait a goodways and it's easy pulling. Put the hawg handles on them and it's better than the little handle that came on them

I am a Revo fan as well. Got hooked when I bought 3 Revo Premier Gen 1's. Now I have 8 Revo MGX's Gen 1 and Gen 2 and 6 Revo MGXtreme Gen 1 and Gen 2. I maintain them meticulously and I have no issues with any of my reels. They always work fine for me from throwing 1/8 oz jigs to 1/2 oz jigs.
