Pretty much all year round they catch them. Probably April thru late October are the busiest. Get trout too. We go every year from Memorial Day on for a week. We want to catch trout. They are always catching reds then. Once you get on them it’s fairly boring catching the same size fish cast after cast. Usually on a popping cork. You can also catch a bunch of over sized ones. If you want a real fight hook a Jack.
Venice is a great place to go. Anyone who fishes needs to go there at least once.
Rent a house boat at Venice Marina. Sit on the deck at the bar. Drink a cold one and watch the offshore and inshore catch come in.

Who do you use for a guide or know of some you would recommend?

I don’t have any recommendations for inshore. We always take our own boats inshore. Venice Marina has a pretty good list in their website. It’s not typically hard for them to catch redfish. It’s so vast someone just coming there not knowing how and where to fish might have a issue catching them. Guides like them because they are pretty steady plus most that go inshore there seem to want reds not trout. Find a guide that will catch both and stay out a while. Some come in after a limit. They will be back to the dock before 10am. It’s pretty high cost there compared to other inshore locations. $850 a day is pretty common. They burn a little gas depending on where the fish are.
If you post on the Venice Marina Facebook you will get a bunch of recommendations. Probably more than you want…..lol.

Been to both places a few times, but FWIW I prefer to go to Grand Isle (much better scenery, a decent beach, and closer). And Aug - Sept if you want bull reds. But anytime there is not a hard cold front coming through can be good. I've only been June - Nov just FYI

But anytime there is not a hard cold front coming through can be good. I've only been June - Nov just FYI Grand Isle got absolutely hammered during the hurricane. Have you been there since? Interested in how it’s progressing. It’s one place I haven’t been but want to go.

Been to Venice, Grand Isle and Lake Calcascieu. Took my own boat. Never hired a guide. Had no trouble finding reds at any of them. You can catch Bull Reds at any of them. Lake Calcasieu has a better rep. for trout. I prefer to go there as it is a 5 hour drive closer. Just south of Lake Charles so there are plenty of things to do when you are not fishing. Never had any issues with safety. Best time for Trout is May thru November. Slot reds the same. For Bull Reds, Oct,-Dec. around the Jetties. IMO. Try them all, make your own choice. Plenty of guides at all of them.

While in Venice I always got to get my Yellow Fin tune up as well. Love it there.
