I have several old Ambassadeur 5000 reels, and I'm trying to get an idea of their value. I did a search on this forum and all the posts regarding this are pretty old. I checked Ebay and the prices are all over the place. Any suggestions of a resource for help would be appreciated.

Not much monetary value, but they are good memories for sure. They really aren’t a great reel. I miss the one I had. Lost it bank fishing to a big “something”!

I've got one from the early 70's, made in Sweden. My neighbor lady's first husband used it till he died about 30 years ago. I serviced it, put carbon tex drag washers in it, and spooled it with 15 pound Trilene. I use it when I'm bottom-fishing with cut bait. Not a great caster, but a good, strong reel. There are so many, they don't have much value. IslandJim

Bought my first Ambassadeur 5000 back in 1972 when I fished my first bass tournament.
I still have the reel that I now use for catfishing.
I couldn't even put a price on that old reel!

Just one more cast!

The older one's (made in Sweden) are great reel's but too many out there for a big profit. I just retired my 5500 that's over 30 yrs old because it hurts my wrist and I still have my grandfathers 6500. One day, I will bring them out for a "Throwback" fishing day.

You might get lucky on Ebay. They brought good money several years ago , they were hot on the Japanese market. I think that has
dried up.

The small ones 1500 , 2500 still bring good money the last time I checked.
Condition is very important.

Good luck

I have a ton of old ambassadors. The biggest catfish I've ever caught came on a 5000. 85+lbs. As far as money goes I usually pay around $30/ea. Parts are easy to get and I'm never looking for a beauty queen. Only work horses.

I just checked on Ebay, 5000's are cheap , 2500's are a little pricey , and 1500's are expensive.
I wish I had a case of new , old stock 1500's

About 20 years ago I caught my first bonefish from kayak with an Ambassador 5000.. Was given the reel by a buddy from Florida that had given up on learning to use a baitcaster. roflmao I'll never forget holding the reel as far away as I could get it from my face. Thought for sure the reel was going to explode.

I own and use Abu 5000 and they work just fine, and have for over 30 years. On catfish up to 65# and bull reds up to 44". Parts are readily available and they are easily worked on when needed. Maybe not the best, but for the money they are hard to beat. Last count I own about 50 of them and they continue to work just fine.

I love the older 5000, can't say the exact model but there is a model that clicks as the drag slips. Not a clicker but it's a plate that covers the drag washer. I will get every one of those I can find.

I still use my dad's old topwater rig exactly as it was when he passed away 21 years ago. That reel is a 1962 model and works better now than it ever did.
