Back from a great trip to the area around Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The sign was clearly posted at Stagecoach Lake just outside of Steamboat. Caught my first ever Northern Pike there.
Also fished Hahn Peak Lake (my favorite place) and a small lake inside the city limits of Steamboat. Caught lots of rainbows. Released all rainbows and gave the pike to a fellow that was keeping fish.
This was great practice for our winter fishing for rainbows here! HaHa!
Caught all rainbows on SDL’s and ultra lite spinning combo.
Great trip!

I grew up in CO and the Steamboat Springs/Hahn's Peak area is my old stomping grounds. Did a lot of fishing, deer hunting and elk hunting in that area. If you go past Hahn's Peak towards Columbine you get into the area of Big Red Park and Whisky Park and there are lots of streams up that way that are filled with brook trout.

Flags, All that area north of Steamboat is beautiful country. It is very hard for me to venture any farther north when Hahn Peak Lake produces for us every year. We take the wives with us and they sit in one of the covered shelters whole we fish. Will have to try the north land on one of next trips. Thanks for the tip!

By the way I served in the USN 1969-1973. Left the Navy as a CS2.

Thanks for the reply Banker! You stocked up on SDL’s? I’m ready for December! I used the 2 lb test in Colorado. Finally invested in one of those wooden handle trout nets.[Linked Image] Remember this spot?

lived on green mt. res. for about 15 yrs. if you drive up try the blue between silverthorne and kremmling, lots of good rainbow.
williams res. just outside of kremmling is loaded with big pike and good kokanee if you like salmon.

the yampa has some huge pike, 48-60" possible, no ultralight there lol.

stagecoach was one I wanted to go fish but never got the chance, floated the yampa a few times.

Thanks for the info hopalong! Need to check out the Kokanee salmon on Williams Res. That’s right on our route to Steamboat. Wildlife and Fish dept must stock the salmon regularly I hope.

Hop on up into Wyoming, we have great fishing too.
Platte runs through Saratoga with great float trip potential. High Savery Res has tiger trout.
Laramie Plains lakes and rivers have great trout fishing as well, some kokanee in plains lakes.
Eastern Wyo has walleye and small mouth with great big trout fishing, browns and rainbows.

Steamboat is a neat town, not what it used to be though.
Enjoy and travel safe.
