I dislike the term. Here is a typical secaniro where I've heard it.
Employee- "You didn't approve my PTO request!! But you approved Bob's. Why!?"
Manager- "Correct. I'm not sure why you're concerned with Bob's pto. However he submitted it prior to yours and it's on a first come first serve basis per the handbook"
Employee- "I'm sick of yall gaslighting me!! I quit!! Yall racist! (Or sexist, anti lgbtq, against work moms etc)
Then two days later after they don't show up you terminate them. They file for unemployment claiming they were wrongly terminated for discrimination of some sort. And then you spend the next 3 months explaining the situation 50 times until finally they're denied.
Who is gaslighting whom?
It's a trending phrase used when someone doesn't like what they're hearing and can't really make a firm argument against it. It's kind of like saying fake news and then not elaborating on why that item might be inaccurate. Beware of people who use that word is my advice.

Personally, I like when someone cant debate a topic and refuses to recognize your comparison as relevant so they drop "straw man" on you. A known fact or opinion backed by history or proof that you disagree with isn't grounds for claiming straw man but since they cant defend their opinion, they grasp for....straws.

gaslighting, manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.
