iI gave my oldest son $500 bucks and sent him to hot springs for his first nuptials...... the divorce cost me $20,000+

worst investment ever.

Mexico would have been nice, but it was important to me to get married in front of God and any family or friends that could attend.

My parents are building a wedding venue, I think it could easily be more profitable than any car lot, I wish I was getting a piece of that action LOL

You could easily double that amount and still come out WAY ahead. Either that or do as Kattelyn's parents did is the best advice I can give. Whatever you estimate something to cost for the wedding, double it.

A not so all inclusive list of things to consider if going the formal wedding route;
Venue Plus upfront security deposit and also wedding liability insurance required by the venue to protect you and them from any liability claims.
Wedding Coordinator
Someone to perform the ceremony
Flowers
Photographer
Wedding invitations
Cake's (Bride and Groom)
Caterer
Table linens
Bride dress
Tuxedo rental
Alcohol
Bartender
Security guard. Venue/local ordinances may require one if serving hard liquor.
Limousine
Makeup and hair dresser for the bride and brides maids on the day of the wedding.
DJ, don't skimp here as they can really liven up the reception. Also did a photo booth which was a big hit for everyone.

And the list goes on and on and on...

Daughter got married April of 2021. Spent about 8 months getting everything arranged. Wedding was originally scheduled for the spring of 2020, but due to the China virus and the "2 weeks lock-down to flatten the curve" had to be rescheduled a month before the wedding date. Was rescheduled for Sept. of 2020, again had to be rescheduled due to the lock-down's and the government limiting the number of people that could be in a venue at the same time. In the mean time, the caterer went out of business, and the venue where it was to be held changed ownership so had to find new caterer and resubmit application for venue. Finally rescheduled for April of 2021 and was able to pull it off. Had a great time, but was sure grateful to see the venue in my rear-view mirror as I left the place for the last time.

Yeah, when my son got married last year they had an official church wedding and then a ceremony and party a couple of weeks later at a venue in Dripping Springs.

My niece got married at St. Lucie. My brother spent some serious bucks on that one.

Destination wedding. I got married in Jamaica at the Breezes Runaway Bay resort. It was great. Cost less than what we were planning in Galveston.

if it's Texas, it's gotta be ATT stadium or Gilleys

Hey, the guy asked for wedding venues. Here ya go. Right around the corner from my house. But they book up way in advance. I have no affiliation, but they do a TON of biz, and it's a very cool place overlooking Lake Travis. Has a small "hotel" type guest house that I believe sleeps 8 or 10 as well. Have no idea what it costs.

It's called Villa Antonia in Jonestown Texas if you can't get these links to work.

I know of 4 wedding venues that were built near Glen Rose in the last year or so. Big money, it's insane what people are spending on weddings.

Weddings are boring in general......they're equivalent to a funeral when they're held in a church.

Was gonna say - just have it at the church and be done. It's one day. Half of them end in divorce. Don't make the ceremony more important than the marriage. We have 30 acres and 100% my daughter is going to be getting married under the big oak trees out front. No sense in wasting tens of thousands of dollars on one day.

If the goal is just to have a big party, have it wherever and have fun, but most of these folks are trying to live up to expectations set the wedding industry and it's no way to live life going broke trying to meet others expectations. I did what I could to train this mindset out of my wife early on and it worked pretty well. She feels very differently about weddings 15 years into ours than she did when we got married. Her mom is a sweet lady, but she got a lot of that from her

Here's a local place that is "different" than the other venues. If they're into weird and steam punk vibes...
