If I go with a stand-alone 24v it will require a new tray and shifting things in the bilge around. If I go with 2 x 12v in series I can drop them right in. Price difference is like $50 on the batts but I would need a new tray making the 24v about $130 more. 24v comes with single bank charger, 2x12’s I would need a new 3 bank charger which will be around $200-$250. So, price is a wash really. Anybody see or know of a reason for the bigger 24v to be a better set up?

Downfall to the 24v, should it go bad when you need the boat, you’re buying 2 new batteries and hunting down a 12v chargers to charge. I would think you already have the 12v charger, but if you fish out of town, maybe not.

2 - 12v’s and you have one break when needed, you can slip a cheap 12v in its place for the time being.

Biggest downfall that I’m seeing on the 24v’s is most aren’t that big of amp hours. I rather have 2 100ah batteries on the TM, than a single 24v 50-60ah. These 24v batteries do interest me, but I’ll probably stick with the dual batteries.

I’m looking at Amped outdoors. They offer a 24v 80ah or a 12v 80ah that’s in a group 27 case. I’ve heard a 24v may last longer due to cell balancing and charging being being more consistent but the same guy said if space was a concern then I could get two 24v 50ah and wire parallel which seems like I’d be right back at the balancing issues 🤷🏻‍♂️

From listening to several of the professional anglers, they are running dual 24v batteries. Granted most of us don’t need that much battery.

80ah is pretty decent sized for most of us.

Edit: just looked at the amp webpage, nice looking battery. Comes with a 10amp charger, which is nice. Their prices are pretty good, I kind of prefer having Bluetooth, but can’t say that it’s necessary. Most of the 24v that I’ve seen were a bit more expensive and having 2 duals made more sense. These Amps might change my thinking, but then I go back to the “what if it breaks”.

I’m not really seeing any reason to talk you out of that 24v.

2x 12v lithium batteries. Just my .02... 2x 100ah batteries and you can fish two days without worrying.

I sell a couple different brands and the singles and mutliples have pro and cons just like anything does. Yes if the single cuts out on you it can ruin your day but same goes for tryin to run a 24v motor on 12v power as its not getting very much done. Depending on the brand and space you have some choose the singles. You also have to factor in your charging situtation, do you wanna run a onboard system or multi plug ins and deal with an individual charger? When looking at sales for me I would say the singles vs the 24v or 36v is pretty even, its just comes down to your budget and brand preference. Also depending on your style of fishing 50ah will get ya 2-2.5 days of fishing on a single charge, if you're running on 80-100% all day or fishing heavy current recommend 100ah. Give Ionic a look I'm running this deal for a bit longer, they have built in bluetooth and I awlays tell people if your gonna make an investment why not get the most tech out you dollar.

I am no expert on batteri3s but I think I saw the ad on facebook and someone said the same thing about replacing one with a cheap 12v in emergency and they said you could not link the 2 different type together so I would check with them about that.
I just repowered my old Champion with a new larger 4 stroke which weighs more and I can see the difference in how low the transom sits in the water so I am considering making the change to free up the weight from 4 heavy batteries to 2 lighter batteries.

That's correct you can't run a lead acid and lithium in series or parallel, with some brand you are able to jump a lead acid from a lithium but that's dependent on the type of cells and how the bms is programmed in the lithium.

You can series them for the short term, not long term. (We’re talking something along the lines of fishing a tournament and you have no option, except to buy a lead acid to get you through the tournament.) The higher voltage lithium would always be sending power to the lower voltage lead acid. If you saw that on a Champion boat forum, might have been me saying it.

Which model champ do you have and what did you put on it?

The Ionic battery is a complete game changer. You will never buy regular batteries again.

Just get you a 24V and a charger for it.
You won't regret it.

I had Amped and switched to Ionics, went from single 36 to 3 12’s for me to balance the weight in the boat.

The cranking battery from Ionics is outstanding

If in DFW I can also supply Ionics from our location in Wylie

I have 3 ionic for my force tm, haven't got to use them much so far, outboard gave out.

I too suggest go with the 2 12's.

I pulled the trigger on the 2 x 12v, 80ah setup from Amped. The price for the ah's and internal construction seemed really good and I got a 10% discount, customer service seems really good as well. I know I don't have the bluetooth functionality but I picked up a monitor that mounts on the dash for less than $50. I can see how it would be better to have one set of cells controlled by one BMS but by going with the two batt setup I can drop them right in to the trays where my old batteries are and will work best for boat balancing. I also like the idea that I can add or remove a single battery in case of a failure or to get me out of a pinch.

Really appreciate all the input guys!

Now, which chargers are you guys using? I have the NOCO 3 bank in my amazon cart, anyone have anything good or bad to say about it or have another suggestion?
