Anyone know if the water is high enough to access the nature preserve area way up the lake?

Barely. It starts to really suck close to 2' low and beyond. Really frustrating that the lake keeps getting so low.

If you do not know the path at this level, it is really sketch. Just past the shutdown area is a BIG windowmaker. You will likely drag skeg until you get past the 2 islands. Between the shutdown and the 2 islands is some underwater stuff ( concrete or metal) in line with the bird houses on poles. As you go up the boat lane past the 2 islands, there are some stumps in play that will shock you, and going out of the boat lane will uncover tons of more stuff to hit. Fishing has been beyond sub-par up there this summer.

At 1.9ft low this year we did $15k worth of damage to my partners boat…. another Worth tournament regular did about 10k damage to his boat this year as well. Today we are at -2’. I’ve been making that run for 15 years now, you better know exactly where your supposed to be. I see people all the time in areas that make me cringe… if they only knew what was there. Metal and concrete chunks don’t mix with fiberglass, nor do 120 year old petrified stumps in 2’ of water.

Even when it is normal, it's sketchy. I had to get several tracks following my fishing buddy to get a good path back there. You will drive in some very strange paths, and I typically brush up next to the reeds at the intersection past the entrance sign for the sanctuary and metal pole. I always sidescan going back, and the bottom is scarred with people who got off the safe path. If it is lower than I am used to, prob even more dangerous. I pretty much idle past the bridge all the way back. When you go past the bridge, the dogleg to the left is very surprising. I decided to do some livescope at that corner all the way across to the point, and that area is full of standing trees. And pretty much everywhere you see water has big stumps.. Best advise is to drop the trolling motor and work your way back and try to save a safe trail back there.

If I learned anything...Buda showed me that I don't trust myself to go past the bridge. AHAHAHAHAH

Which reminds me, have the new tags come in yet. Guess I'll wait until next year to get the new one.

I really appreciate this info guys! I’ve been back there a couple of times when the water was high…definitely couldn’t run on plane, but was able to idle a decent ways before it looked fishy. This was years ago though and I had a smaller boat with a small engine that could get into skinnier water much easier than what I have now. I’m sure with the water being any kind of low it’s even worse - and I wouldn’t dare trying to do anything but get on the trolling motor from the bridge north. However I was not aware of any concrete slabs under the surface. Safe to say I’ll just stay away for good measure…save myself the fiberglass work. In my opinion there aren’t that many great spots to fish on that lake in general - so I think I’ll just pass all together for now.

Thanks again!

Hey Ben.. don’t write that area off, really wasn’t trying to scare anyone away but y’all need to know what’s really there. The pic posted above is pretty close but want to mention one thing… once you start into the first left curve of the “horseshoe” past the bridge shutting down anywhere short of the no wake buoys is taking a huge risk. I didn’t say it on the previous post, all of those damages I mentioned occurred at idle speed past the no wake buoys. It’s a sickening sound to hear metal or concrete shredding your fiberglass at 5 mph.

As of now the lake is at -2.09 and dropping like a rock.

Running this for a few years, I know I do not want to take your path as you turn left. At this level I know there is stuff in that path. I swing out a bit more to towards the yellow circle. I think it is a bit too big. I am not saying it can not be done, but I have personally seen stuff there that keeps me more towards the middle.

Can confirm... I am the partner. Same night as me another guy knocked his lower badly, it was replaced.

Used to run on pad all the way up there about three or four times a week back before the No wake buoy’s were put in. It made you pucker but we kept doing it.

Yep....I think I still have my trail saved on an SD card. Took me a couple of times to figure out the run but once I had it I would run a good ways up there. No way now. It probably has changed a lot.
