Trying to get an idea of which pier to fish on July 5th and 6th? What species should I be targeting this time of year and should I present live bait or artificials? I will be able to fish early a.m. and sundown to midnight. Looking for guidance from someone that’s done it. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm kinda in the same boat but all add any pier from Galveston around to Corpus/Aransas. I would guess the best bait would some kind of shrimp live or frozen. The Texas salt seems to be all about the shrimp from what I have read seconded only by fish bites that I have read about on this site.

I would go to the 91st street pier in Galveston.
You can fish for trout near to the entrance.
Go out to end of pier to fish for sharks and redfish.
Use shrimp, squid for trout or general fish.
Cut or whole mullet for redfish
You might also catch an eel which can be cut up and makes good bait also.

Had lots of fun fishing Surfside Jetty last Saturday, then Galveston Fishing Pier Sunday, and 61st Fishing Pier on Monday. Was windy, wet, and rough conditions at times. Did manage to catch a few sharks. Have posted videos of the trip that may be of interest. Still editing a lesson learned video; it's almost done... should post tomorrow 8PM Central. Is the AM or PM bite better right now for specks and Spanish? Will have limited time to fish and want to catch some fish to take home. Also, I’m guessing live shrimp is the preferred method? Any info. would be greatly appreciated and thank you.

Was tough this round due to the sandy water conditions but overall seem to be best at night under lights on the piers for us. Good Luck!

Help, I can't find the post I read two days ago re the trout are only hitting small glass minnows at night.

I was wanting to ask if they would hit a small silver Mr Champ or one with a small white bucktail.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

The Team's annual fishing trip the Texas Coast is in the books. We fished the Galveston Fishing Pier for four days and came away with several Personal Bests with a 41 inch Redfish, a 38 inch Redfish, a 33 inch Black Drum, and a 54 inch Black Tip Shark! Do check out the video as I summarize the Team's fishing fun and point out several lessons learned to keep at the ready next trip!

Went out on this one in Galveston 10 years ago just to check it out as it was too rough to kayak off the beach. It was a cool looking pier. Used to fish off of piers all the the time in south florida. Live bait is the way to go in my opinion. Sabiki rig to catch small baitfish.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Answering the mail concerning our trip to the Texas Coast last month where we caught a number of fish including some nice size Bull Reds, a Black Drum, and Sharks. Largest was a Black Tip Shark that went 54 inches in length!

Received several requests seeking suggestions and tips when fishing for sharks from a pier. As we are not experts - just "Average Joes" who have a passion for fishing, we thought it best to post things we did this trip as well as past trips to the Coast.

Keeping it simple, created a Fishing Infographic - "Pier Fishing for Sharks | Tips for Beginners", and posted it on our Fishing-Hacks.com website.

Almost a year later but tails took awhile to cure. Tailmounts are almost done. Just in time for us to hit the coast again!

Shark and Redfish Tailmounts are coming along! 😃 #fishing #shark #redfish
