Tawakoni is showing off early mornings for the most part! Catching them on top water for the first hour of day light. I had 5 rods rigged up and each rod had a fish on in the boat. Pretty fast action at times. Once that’s died off I could pretty much find sand bass on any point. They would not eat a slab today. I had on a #2 Mepps lure and just used the “saw tooth” method that Bob just posted about. I broke the hooks off that little lure today. Lots of fish coming in. Anyone crowding around using slabs just simply didn’t catch fish. It was a great day for catching fish today!

Nice going Steven. Love that graph pic. It's been very consistent this time of year the Twok fish want very small lures. I was out wed afternoon and marked mother load of fish at most of the usual spots but had to down size to an itsy bitsy mepps #1 for consistent bites and hookups. I learned this from DC on the previous trip. I hated the super light weight #1 mepps but did at least get many missed bites at first then more hookups once i finessed it long enough and figured it out. My neck and shoulders were slightly sore after catching 10 fish due to the extra concentration to feel the light blade spin and the bite. But the reward of catching huge sandies and even hibbies and stripers on the tiny lures is amazing and pretty satisfying to me.

I put a 1/4 oz weight about 25 inches above my tiny mepps #2 or #1 like a Carolina rig set up. I think DC puts an even smaller weight on top of his. And use 10# test line. Good luck and C ya out there!

Hey Todd! Yes I’ve been using weights above the Mepps as well. Honestly I always put a 1/2oz weight up there. I like to make long casts and have the lure sink faster. It’s def a more consistent bite right now with the Mepps.that subtle thump is addicting!

Awesome man. I have a few questions if you don't mind. When you were throwing a top water were you blind casting, or were you seeing boils? If you were blind casting, how deep were you fishing?

I was seeing the boils and casting into them. I used side scan to find schools of fish when they go down. Then it’s not really blind casting bc I know they are in the area I’m casting into. I’ve been staying around 8-15ft of water lately.

Cool thanks. I keep a topwater rigged up if I see a boil but I put it away when they're deep, I will keep trying it next time I know they are in the area.
