I think this years Cowboy division standings really tells a story of how bad MLF payouts are. Take a look at the Top 5 year end standings. Dillon Harrell finished the year in 2nd place overall. That is a great accomplishment. He won a mind boggling $1361 for his great year. Now let’s back out $200 for each of the derbies and another $300 for the 2 day event. That’s $1100 in entry fees. So being the 2nd best overall angler of the year netted him $261. I think we can all agree after fuel and travel it’s a loss for finishing that high! It gets even worse. Brian Vickery fished all 5 events and finished the year in 5th. That’s another great year. He finished ahead of over 250 anglers. For this accomplishment he won $448. Back out the $1100 for entrees and he had a net loss of over $600. How bad does it have to get before folks stop funding MLF?

You have to do well at the Regional Tournament or better to make any money in this trail. It is a progression trail, not a jack-potter.

Fisherman aren’t the smartest about finances.

Let's be real. I bet less than 5-10% off weekend anglers break even or make a profit if we are truly being honest.

More than his entry fees... Dan

lets be honest for a moment the majority of tournament anglers have a better chance at the casinos than bass tournaments.

Top level tournaments like BASS Elites have same payouts as they did 20 years ago. Fisherman are suckers!

I know this after doing it for more than decade, if you are in it for the money you need to change hobbies. The BFL is just the on ramp for higher levels, nothing more.

it's not about money... be it the BASS Federation or BFL or any of the weekend angler/non-profesional trails that lead to "the big show", Bassmasters Classic, FLW Cup - whatever, the big show is the prize... if someone is fishing the weekend "advancement tournaments" for the money their doing it for the wrong reason really... i wouldn't waste the time and money to fish the circuits that end with a championship that gives a few bucks and a boat for first prize and its over... but the Classic or the Cup; that is worth fishing to get to...

I don’t care enough about it to look it up, but this answered the question I had. Hard to come out ahead with only 1 top 10.
