The ones that I have put in my stock tanks years back all died when the water got in the low 50's.

Fish move a lot more than most think. Just like whitebass travel miles upstream to spawn. For survival, I bet they would go to the hot water discharge

This is interesting. I am a seller of tilapia and stock them in dozens of private lakes all over NE Texas. I have done so for more than 10 years. I have heard "rumor" once or twice that someome thought that a few survived as far north as the DFW metroplex. 99.99999% of the time they do not. Shocked to hear this.

Where is there a water discharge at Lavon?

Water Discharge - There are a few of them.
1.) Power Plant - Mid-Lake on the "Groves" Creek Arm
2.) Shallow Below Ray Hubbard "Wetland" Discharge
3.) Seis Lagos Discharge - Trinity River Arm - Mid-Lake
4.) The one everyone is talking about - Beyond the Buoys north of Highland Park. "Wilson Creek Discharge Plant" There was a YouTuber that went up there and filmed an episode a few years ago that has magically disappeared. No one adheres to the "No Boats" buoys on this one... [Linked Image]

Temps don't matter as much as people think. They've adapted. I've literally seen thousands of them on lake Travis and water gets pretty dang cold. I've also seen them in LBJ and Decker but nobody talks about them

Hard to believe considering I’ve seen whole creeks freeze up a couple times in the last ten years.

The first I know of being caught was over thirty years ago . Back then we thought it was just a aquarium fish that got loose .
But I seen a cast net full of small ones posted by a guide that fishes Lavon on Facebook this year .

That is so surprising to me. had no idea that there were some areas of lake Lavon that are staying above 52-53 degrees.

I caught tilapia on dry flies in that discharge back in January of 2011. I had been out there duck hunting and saw fish rising. Went back with my fly rod and caught a bunch of tilapia. Took pictures and sent to the local game warden.

Was fishing the dam this morning and a couple guys in kayaks near by apparently caught a few. I could hear them talking about it.
