I am looking for a good painter who will also remove the popcorn from the ceilings. I have some high ceilings that I would like to take care of but I'm not sure I can do it myself.

Please let me know if you know somebody. The house is in Plano.

Thanks

Sorry I don't have a recommendation but...good luck. I got some estimates to have this done on our house that we sold last winter. Major sticker shock...estimates ranged from $17-20K for a 1600 SF house!

How old is the house?
A lot of people won't go near popcorn ceilings because removing it is a lot like asbestos abatement.

That's ridiculous for 1600 square feet. But that's how it is right now. It can be done for MUCH less than that and done well.

And this is more ridiculous. It has NO asbestos in it. It's messy, but not difficult to take down. They wet it well first, then just scrape it off. Let it dry a day or two, (maybe an hour or two in this heat). put new texture on, let it dry, prime, then paint. It's a very messy job. If you're replacing floors then no problem AT ALL. If not you have to make sure you protect your floors from the dampness. PM me, I have a referral for you. They may be a few weeks out to get to it. How many square feet is your home?

Over $10 a square foot is quite high, but it is a really messy job. I used to make that stuff and we sold ungodly amounts of it

We paid the guys who painted our interior an extra $2k to remove the popcorn from the ceilings in our 1600sf house a couple years ago. It looked pretty simple to do. He took a spray bottle and misted the popcorn, then used a trowel to remove it.

Our ceiling is 10' throughout the house.
The whole thing was only 13k but they repaired a couple spots and edges around the house.

Depends on the age of the popcorn ceiling. They outlawed/banned asbestos in the 70's, but allowed suppliers to continue to sell it into the early 80's. Older homes could still have it. When we were looking to buy a place back in 2013 we looked at one place where they disclosed that 3 of the rooms still had popcorn ceilings that had asbestos.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

This is who did my house. Complete popcorn removal and all of the inside painted. They did a great job and had them come back and paint outside a couple of months ago.

I had no idea that one closed.

You raise that sticky little flag and don't think much of it. It never occurs that at some point, that will be the final time you will hoist those colors. I don't remember my final raising of the flag there, and that saddens me a bit. You just always assume there will be a next time.

Thanks for the recommendations and comments. The house was built in 1997.

I have removed the popcorn and painted the ceiling in the other rooms of the house (up to 12 feet), but the dining room has 14 foot ceilings and the entryway has the ceiling height of the 2nd story (over 20). I thought about renting some scaffolding, but doing the lower ceilings has been killing me and I am also short on time. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. Maybe leave it. I will start with some estimates.

Thanks again
