I can second this advice. Works in Rockport area as well. I don’t know why anyone would target the slimy suckers. They get your boat nasty and snotty. I hate even seeing that slime up my line on a missed strike.

If you're me, you find a big school of surface feeding reds and you cast right in the middle. Guaranteed to have snot 15" up my leader and a nice slime shark.

For me all I have to do is target a gamefish species like redfish and I am guaranteed to catch gaffs and hardheads.
