The late summer pattern dictating smaller baits and shallow structures is in full force. Today I was out from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and scouted shallow structures from the dam to Enchanted Isle. None of the dam structures were holding concentrations of fish. Between yesterday and today, I found good numbers of catchable fish at Saint Annes Point East, Pole Dance Point, Drew's Humps, Key Ranch Drop-off, Kevin's Point, Spillway Hump, and Enchanted Isle Ridge. Spillway had concentrations all over it. Fish were catchable but finicky. I caught some on a number 2 Mepps and, when that slowed, I caught them on a number 1 Mepps. In fact, I caught 3 hybrids on a #1 Mepps, one was 21.5 inches long. After trying various presentations of the 2 and 1, fish seemed to prefer a jerk start from the bottom and swimming it up instead of sideways. Today I managed 41 whites and 6 others.

Ansy to get out of the house yesterday afternoon, I went out at 2 PM for about an hour and a half. There were quite a few clouds offering some sun protection, and the wind made it tolerable. I went to the north side of Drew's Humps and it was covered with white bass in 10 to 12 fow. I started with a #2 Mepps, and I could catch a white about every 2nd or 3rd cast. I switched to a #1 and began catching fish every cast. I had to adjust position a couple of times to stay on fish, but in an hour I had caught a limit of 25 nice whites. Drew's Humps location is on the CC map referred to in my signature block.

8/11/2022 to 8/13/2022: On the 11th I took out grandson Andrew and his cousins Parker and Pierston. We fished from 8:30 Am to 2 PM and caught 84 fish. Three were short hybrids, 2 were legal, and the rest white bass. We caught them at Drew's Humps, Key Ranch Drop-off, Spillway Hump, and Enchanted Isle Ridge. We were using #2 Mepps cast out from the boat and worked back along the bottom in a sawtooth pattern - doing a jerk start and then reeling slow. Fish were shallow - 10 to 15 fow.
On the 13th I took out my Pastor and his youngest son Eli. We fished from about 8:30 to 11:30 Am and caught 56. Fifty-two were white bass, a couple were cats, and two were short hybrids. We caught them all at Key Ranch Drop-off using #1 and #2 Mepps. Like above, we cast out and worked the Mepps back to the boat along the bottom in 9 to 14 fow.

Here are some pics of the two outings:

I drove to Cedar Creek today, just to check out the ramps, the lake looks extremely low.
A single person without powerpoles launching a boat would have to be creative.

Log Cabin ramp is usable. You will have to beach the boat and get feet wet to get in after launch.

Lone Star is also usable. Just remember that the launch fee for both is $10.

I pulled my 21 foot Cobalt out of the lake using Caney city ramp on Sunday. The right side if you're facing the lake is in better shape. Left side has a drop off. I ended up walking the boat in from about 50-75 yards out. The approach is pretty shallow but my v-hull cobalt didn't have any problems floating over the shallow parts. Once you get closer to the ramp it gets deeper since the boats blast that area when loading onto a trailer. You could use a trolling motor to get through the shallow pretty easily. Probably will be dry in a few weeks unless these showers drop a bit of rain. Everyone be careful out there.

8/30/2022: Rain predicted but it was a nice day on cedar Creek Lake. I took advantage of the cool temperatures, went out from 2 to 5:30 PM, and checked out Iron Wall Hump, Spillway Hump, Enchanted Isle Ridge, and Game Warden Hump. I could see fish at Iron Wall and Enchanted Isle Ridge but they wouldn't bite. These humps are deeper - in 20 to 22 fow where I saw fish. Spillway and Game Warden had lots of fish in 10 to 13 fow, and these fish would bite. I caught 34 whites and two 23-inch hybrids. The fact that you can catch them on the shallow structures and not on the deeper ones is a normal mid-summer through September pattern, but I keep trying. I tried Mepps #1,2, and 4, and they preferred 2. I caught one of the hybrids on a 2 and the other on a 4 I had switched to because my 2 was hung up. The 2 worked best by casting out, pointing the rod at the line, jump-starting, and keeping it moving medium speed for about 6 turns of the reel.
