Hi fellow fisherman. Had a blast fishing the local lake yesterday (El Capitan, East San Diego) for half a day and landed 10, and as usual, mostly on Topwater. Even though I catch them all day, when the average fisherman is not, I find the last hour of the day to be highly successful for bigger fish. That was the case yesterday, but I was fishing a popper and getting big explosions but they were missing it. I realized I usually switch to a top water running baits, like a buzz bait or whopper ploppers. I had like five minutes left (they close our lakes at dusk over here, bunch of idiots run San Diego county) and wouldn’t you know it the first cast I landed a lunker, and the next cast I had one just as large knock it out of the water (yeah they can still miss, but not as often, file this under disclaimer huh? :-)) . If I’d of switched a half hour earlier, I might’ve had three or four other nice size bass landed. But, we’re all human, and I forgot about that fact. So I thought I’d share with you guys. Hope that helps.

I also wrote an article on how to fish frogs, it’s my forte. I fished a million hours with it in the last 20 years, all day long many times. My best three in a session, at Otay lake in Chula Vista, went 18 pounds. I tied that record up at the California Delta, getting three up there for 18 pounds (one went 9). Fun times. Actually caught like 20 bass up to 6 pounds on the frog without moving the boat up at Clearlake once. Was like dying and going to heaven ahead of schedule! :-)
Tight lines.

Should’ve gone to the proper earlier, but I got a couple more of these nice ones. They miss it less, it’s easier to track compared to a spook or a popper.

My largest on the frog to date is 11.6. Fought like the dickens.

Fine looking bass!

Biden famously said in the New York Observer, “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Nice fish, thanks for sharing. I'm a little jelly, to be honest. Some big fish out there...

Cheers, and after a day like that it sure makes the heart happy...
