They are an authorized mk repair center. I was impressed

Awesome, better than leaving it all star for 6 weeks, LOL

The reason I like to do repairs myself is I don’t have to leave my trolling motor with a shop. I have dropped it off one time, with Zach at Southwest. It was a dead motor. I smacked a big boulder with it and it started taking on water. If the motor housing and motor weren’t permanently mounted to the shaft, I would have done the repair. Instead, that was more than I wanted to take on at the time.

I learned the hard way. I did not want to leave it for an extended amount of time so I bought the part to fix it myself. It didn't work and was sitting out of commission for weeks anyway. Took it to that shop and not only did they tell me that they fix them while you wait, The final bill was $100. I can't believe that I waited so long to get a $100 repair. Trolling motors today just have too many electronic parts for me to be able to diagnose myself. My problem was the part was preset by MK for install but I watched a YouTube video on how to do it and they gave bad info.

Well. It didn’t work. So. Guess it’s time to spend money again.

Dammit!

Yep. Just ordered a $265 part. It’s the iPilotLink controller. There is a little GPS antenna inside a circuit board that’s attached to the underside of the head. It’s about 1”square and about as thick as a nickel. It gets scorching hot after the troller is powered up for about 10-15 minutes. Then quits receiving sat signals. If I disconnect the circuit board from the rest of the troller and let it cool down, it will spot lock for 10 minutes or so again. Then it’s hot and quits again.

I think this just about makes the aluminum mount the only original part left…that and parts of the foot pedal.

I’m wondering if I could have just ordered the iPilot controller (non-link) and saved a few bucks. I think the only difference was the ability to link to a Humminbird. And I don’t use them anymore. Went with Lowrance.

The saga continues.

I bought a new iPilot head. The part with the GPS antenna an all. It was cheap enough from Southwest Parts.

I installed it and it didn’t work. Zober tried to tell my stubborn [censored] that it probably wasn’t the problem. But I am me, and nobody can tell me anything. Lol.

So, after I fished last night, another guy needed the part, so he bought it off me for a small discount. So I didn’t lose much at all. Today I tore into the foot pedal. I found some pinched wires from last years steering sensor install. I repaired the pinched wiring and it’s now working. At least for the last 30 minutes.

I’ll call it “good” if it lasts an 8 hour day of fishing.

Mines been acting up last few trips out. Would work fine for a while then prop wouldn’t turn when I pressed power button. Tore it apart this morning and found some water in it and a bit of corrosion. Positive connector to brush plate was broken making for a bad connection.

Fun fun! Looks like mine did Friday. I cleaned a couple small things and let er rip. It worked better than new yesterday. Better, as in I actually did the calibration, offset, and scale adjustments for the first time. Also it beeps now. One beep when I press a button, three when it cancels spot lock. It never did that. Unlike the POTUS, this one deserves another 4 years.

Turn your offset to +2 then it will test your balancing skills or toss you out of the boat. Ask me how I know

It was fun enough on “0”. +2 would be like riding a bull.
